How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer. This is because I am now a proud owner of a piece of land and a dairy cow. Also, I now have hope that my son will be joining secondary school without any challanges. In addition, my daily expenditure has reduced and this has been contributed by the fact that I now have a dairy cow. Due to this, I no longer buy milk on a daily basis.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by giving out financial aid to everyone without any discrimination and I do not see anything that they do not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, I set aside KES 20000 that I am planning to use in paying school fees for my son who will be joining high school early next month. Using the remaining amount, I bought a piece of land after topping up KES 3000. I settled on this so that I can have an asset to call my own. Also, I will be building my own house there since I am a single parent and in our culture, it is very rare to find a lady being given a share of land by her parents.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that GiveDirectly had sent me money in the afternoon after reading the unread messages on my phone. I felt so happy knowing that financial support will fulfill my dreams of bringing more assets to my family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life has greatly changed since I received my first transfer. It is always my happiness to see my family happy and healthy thus I always struggle to put a meal on the table and bring in more assets that we can lean on as a family during hard times. When I received my first transfer from GiveDirectly, I spend on my family wellness. I bought a cow that I look at it as an added asset and I believe soon it will calve thus give us milk for both household consumption and sales. I am happy that this has given me a peaceful mind in that It has reduced my thinking of what to lean on in case of a financial crisis. I am happy that GiveDirectly has improved our family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
AS a way of investing the transfer I used KES20000 to buy a cow. I made this decision since I look at this as an added asset and as time goes by it will multiply thus have offspring that I can sell to support my financial needs. I had a plan to build a new decent house since the one I live in is getting old thus I used KES21000 to buy building materials. I am happy that soon I will be living in a new decent house to call home. I spent the remaining amount on my personal and family both basic needs and household daily expenditures.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a single mother of 3 children and my nature of work doesn't cannot allow me to save for their education and elder son is soon joining high school and therefore I will use major portion of this money for school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Ian the evening I am happy because I get time to interact with my family members after spending the whole day in doing casual jobs in order to put food on my table.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is lack of a permanent job. Ever since I completed school I have been doing casual jobs which are not sustainable source of income. This is also coupled with single parenting where I don't have somebody to support me to meet my basic needs.
