How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I did not have any new goals. My son was involved in a road accident and he injured his leg. He was admitted to the hospital and this made me spend all the second transfer on paying his medical bills. I am so grateful because I was able to settle this. I could have sold my cow and other assets.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy day cows. This has enabled them to cut the daily cost of buying milk. Besides that, most people were able to pay school fees for their children in various schools. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent all the second transfer on paying the hospital bills. During that time when I received the transfer my son was involved in a road accident and his leg was seriously injured. He was admitted to Tenwek Hospital. He was treated and later discharged with huge bills. He made us pay the hospital bills. I am so happy because I could have sold all my assets to settle this. GiveDirectly enabled us to pay easily. He is now doing well and he is so happy that he got helped.
