How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I needed money to complete my house project. In doing so, I bought building materials ( zinc, nails, planks etc...) with my recent transfer. I also purchased 6 gallons of gasoline to pay sawyer get enough wood for the roof of my house. My live has improved immensely within the last couple of months. This is due to GiveDirectly's financial support towards me and my family. I am grateful for this golden opportunity.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
First of all, I see GiveDirectly as an integrity NGO. When I was told by GD staff about these transfers, I doubted from the very beginning. However, GiveDirectly has been very honest in delivering cash to poor people like us. My life has changed completely. I will forever remain grateful to GD for transforming my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My primary objective at the moment is to complete my house project. Therefore, as soon as I received my transfer, I bought 2 bundles of zinc for $21,000LD. I also used portion of my transfer to buy 2 cartons of nails (zinc nails & mixed nails) to roof my house. My balance transfer was used to buy 6 gallons of gasoline for $6,000LD. The gas will be given to the sawyer to produce enough plank so that my house can be roofed.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal before recieving this has been to have a new and decent house for my family. With the transfer from GiveDirectly I am certain that my goal is close to achieving. I have demolished the old house and now erecting the new one in that old spot. Since I was born this is the first time to receive this amount of money free without working for it.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by reaching every households to see if they eligible to be enrolled into the program. In doing this, I think no household that is eligible to be enrolled would be left out. Unlike where the household refuses to be enrolled. The organization is not doing anything that is wrong, in my opinion.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Through the recent transfer I was able to buy additional bundles of zinc. I was also able to buy few gallons of gas to be used in the power saw to saw planks that will complete the roofing and furniture works on the house. I also paid the sawyer and masoner in full for their workmanship.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I did not know that I have mobile money in my account until I had gone for a burria ceremony. It was during that time, I received a mobile money alert on my phone which that I have received forty thousand three hundred seventy five dollars from GiveDirectly. I can just imagine when I received the message on my phone, I was overwhelmingly happy to have received such an amount of money free without working for it. I am so grateful for this golden opportunity given me and my household by GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have been covering about two hours distance to cut new thatch(s) to replace the old ones on my house especially during the rainy season. As of now, the biggest difference in my daily life since I started recieving payments from GiveDirectly is that, I will no longer have to covered that distance again because my roof is now going to be covered with zinc; in addition, my house will be dust free because I will have my house floor cast with cement and the walls will also be plastered with cement too. Words are inadequate to express, genuinely speaking from the bottom of my heart, I am saying a big thank you to GiveDirectly for helping to change my family life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The roof of my house is in a very deplorable condition. I have been thinking about rethatching the entire roof especially during this dry season before the rainy season can start. Now that I have received this amount of money, I am going to buy zinc, nails, and other roofing materials to reroof my house. Like I said this is a golden opportunity that has come to my door step and I am going to make a very good use of it. Thank GiveDirectly for putting my household on this cash transfer program.
