For the last three years, it has been hard to depend on farming because of the prolonged drought in our area. As a farmer it was a loss on my side because of a reduction in farm output, meaning that my income wasn't much to support my child's education and other needs too. At times, my child would be sent home to fetch for school fees but ended up staying one to two weeks due to lack of money. I appreciate GiveDirectly's assistance since I was able to offset the pending fee arrears for my son. He has enrolled in college after completing his secondary education. Although it is still a challenge, it's not that much unlike before because I supplement my income with the milk I sell out of the dairy cow I bought with the transfer.

In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by uplift the living standards of the less privileged in my village by giving out money in an transparent way and it didn't request for bribe like other organisation have always done .

I spent 30000 KES of my second transfer to buy a dairy cow and its calf. Today , I get three litters which I sell to some of my neighbors to cater to our basic needs . I also paid fees for my child who has already completed his secondary school education and enrolled to college.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I can now cater for my family needs with much ease unlike before. This is because having a dairy and poultry keeping projects running at the same time has made me climb a ladder economically. I can now supply milk to a cooler plant in my region and my family takes eggs at times which has is more nutritious.

My heart was filled with happiness the moment I realized that GD had sent me the promised money. It was still at night when I realized the good news and I couldn't sleep anymore as I started imagining how my life would be after I spend the money.

I bought a dairy cow from my inlaw using part of my first transfer. When it reproduces, I will be able to supply milk to our cooler plant so that I can earn an income. I can also sell the heifers in case of a financial crisis, for instance, paying school fees for my children. Also, I started a poultry keeping project by buying some chicken. I settled on this since the demand for eggs in my locality is always high. I will be using the income from this project to meet our basic needs. I used the remaining amount to buy three sacks of maize flour and decent clothes for my family.
