How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Two months before GiveDirectly came, my second hand clothes business had collapsed and I didn't know where I could get capital to reopen it again. This is because I had debts all over starting from the villagers to table banking groups. Therefore, meeting my family needs had become very difficult which made me very depressed. GiveDirectly's transfers changed my life instantly in a way I didn't expect since this money fulfilled my aspiration of boosting my second hand clothes business and I started sewing clothes as well. I am happy since I have a reliable source of income that has enabled me provide for my family with ease and on a daily basis I am able to save 200 KES. Thanks GiveDirectly for bringing back a smile to a widow's face like me.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well since before sending the promised amount of money which was non -refundable. Their staff sensitized the beneficiaries on the possible ways money could be spent that promoted quality living standards to the poorest households and reduction of crime in the village among the youths who were jobless and idling around.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the larger part of my second transfer to buy hybrid seeds and fertilizers which improved the quantity of my yields because I was able to apply modernized methods of cultivation as compared to the local one that I used before. The remaining amount I bought a steel door 8,000, a cupboard, 12 cushions for my chairs and a suitcase.
