How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to construct a decent shelter for my family. For many years, I have been living in a small structure which forced my 2 grown-up children to seek shelter from my neighbors. This kept me constantly worried about their safety at night as they had to walk a long distance every night after dinner to our neighbor's house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in helping the less fortunate households with the cash transfer program. The officers did well in enrolling each and everyone in the program. Calling us after every transfer they had sent us increases our ownership and awareness about the program. I feel that all that they did was well done and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfer came at a time when my second-born son had just finished her primary education and was about to join secondary school. As parents, we were confused since we did not have any savings to further his studies. After receiving the transfer, our priority was his educational needs. I spent KES 28,000 for shopping and to pay all her term one school fees. Moreover, we used KES 16,000 to purchase one cow and one goat. This was to start livestock keeping a long-term investment for the family, I will sell some when they multiply to cater for any financial emergency. With the remaining amount, I bought enough food for the family since we still struggling with famine in our for the last 2 years now.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means education for my children. I'm planning to use 500 dollars from this donation from GiveDirectly to cater for my children schools fees. I'll further use 200 dollars to buy one pair of ox-plough for improved productivity in my farm so as to boost my family's food security. Getting the ox-plough will give me the ability of tilling a larger piece of land compared to the three acres of land I used to till.
What is the happiest part of your day?
