How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I primarily depend on subsistence farming to see my family through. I have children in various schools and my biggest ambition is to see them prosper in their education to allow them to have a better life in the future. Raising their school fees is challenging for me due to the limited resources in our family. Currently adding a cow to my herd with an aim that once they reproduce, I will have milk for both household consumption and sales gives me a the biggest difference in my daily life. I will have offsprings which to me I can always depend on in case of any financial crisis more so to raise my children's education fee and any other household necessity arising. To me having these two heifers in my compound is the biggest difference in my daily life. It gives hope that I can always provide for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own opinion, GiveDirectly has done an amazing jobs. Look at my community, changes are seen since GiveDirecly came. We currently have livestocks, decent house among other assets courtesy of GD. I thank them and urge them to continue supporting the needy.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I live along the main road next to a primary school a place that is ideal for business. I had wished for long to build a shop but I couldn't due to scarce resources. When I received my second transfer, I used KES43000 to build a shop. Even though I don't have stock at the moment, I am glad I am towards realizing my dream. I took another KES 1000 to boost my poultry farming. The remaining amount I spent on my households daily needs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I live in a mud floor house and it is quite labor-intensive to maintain such, apart from the dust involved in such a flour. I have always wanted to improve this by atleast cementing it but finances to do this project has been a proble since the little money I get goes into the basic household needs. I am now happy that I am finally going to do it now that I have the aid from Give Directly. I am also proud to have an additional cow in my herd since cows give me joy!
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was one early morning when I overheard my fellow village mates saying that money from Give Directly had been sent to us. I asked my helper to check my phone if I too had received and I was so excited and happy when my helper confirmed that I had received my first transfer from Give Directly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought a cow for rearing using the transfer received. I love rearing animals and I decided to add one to the existing heard for KSh 25000. I also bought some building materials in preparation to cement my flour. I am planning to use the rest to pay for labor for the construction of the flour.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been having a plan of bulilding a permanent house.Infact I have bought bricks but construction has not began due to lack of money. The first thing I would wish to spend this money on is buying two dairy cattle.I will then start the construction of the house. The proceeds from dairy farming will help me complete constructing the house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I wake up at around 5 o'clock in the morning.I first check on my cattle then have breakfast.During this season I have tree seedlings that I am tending tu.I spend the morning hours in the tree nursery .After lunch I look after the cattle and ensure they are well fed.I spend the better part of the afternoon doing this.Evening is the happiest part of my day.Its always a great achievement seeing off a successful day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My wife developed a spinal disease 8 years ago.We have been through a lot since that time. Beginning with financial issues and all the way to psychological stress.I have sold several cattle inorder to cater for the hospital bills. We visited three different hospitals and we used over 100,000 Kenya shillings. She is now paralyzed and uses a wheel chair. She cannot do any task.We live with our grand child who helps us with house chores and other duties within the homestead. This has brought me a lot of stress since there seems not to be any solution or hope for her to walk again. We are now depending on God.This has been the biggest hardship in my life.
