How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming days, I will be focusing on raising enough money to be able to pay school fees for my children at different level of education. I am required to raise a lot of money yet I rely almost entirely on farming to make ends meet. I cannot therefore have other goals that requires finances currently. Once I get relieved a little bit then I will focus on having more dairy cows to cushion me from any eventualities and to allow me raise more money for paying school fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving equal amount of money without biasness. There is no discrimination of individuals during enrollment and every person that was enrolled was able to receive equal amount of money all through.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used all of my recent transfer to pay school fees for one of my children who was joining secondary school. I was required to have a lot of money that was used to buy school needed items and to also pay school fees for him. Moreover, I have other children at different level of studies and also needed school fees at that same time. The transfers supplemented the income made from farming and the casual work that I do and I am happy that I successfully settled my child in school. I have three of my children in secondary and college level of studies while another three are still in their primary level. Owing to the fact that we rely almost entirely on farming, I am extremely grateful for the support that I receive from GiveDirectly and what it has enabled me to accomplish.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year, I have some clear goals in mind. First and foremost, I plan to continue saving with the merry-go-round. My ultimate goal is to buy a cow which I have been dreaming about for a while now. Once I have enough money saved from the merry-go-round, I believe it will be the perfect time to make this investment. A cow can provide my family with a steady supply of milk, which not only helps us nutritionally but also offers an opportunity to sell surplus milk to generate additional income. To achieve this, I will combine the money I save with the merry-go-round and the income from my job. With dedication and careful financial planning, I am confident that I can make my dream of owning a dairy cow a reality in the coming year.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I must say, GiveDirectly has truly impressed me with their approach to providing unconditional cash transfers. One thing that stood out was the fairness of their program. They ensured that each one of us received equal amounts of money. The organization also went above and beyond by teaching us about mobile money security and explaining everything thoroughly. This ensured that we could use the funds safely and effectively. My only wish is that they do not change anything about this program and perhaps, if possible, add even more money to help us further improve our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I decided to save $15 of the transfer every month through a merry-go-round group in our village, and these savings would serve as a safety net for unexpected expenses or emergencies. With the remainder of the cash transfer, I focused on paying the school fees for my son who is in high school. Education is incredibly important to me, and I want to ensure that my children have the opportunity to pursue their studies without any financial barriers. I have two children in college and one in high school. In addition to the cash transfer, I continue to work as a shopkeeper in a local store, and my wife is a farmer. Together, we manage our household expenses and ensure that our children receive the education they deserve.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I already have three of my children in secondary and tertiary level of education. Our last born child will soon join secondary school as from next year too. This calls for more resources to keep them in school and make sure they have the best in terms of education as I have always desired as a parent. It is because of this reason that I am currently part of a savings scheme that will help us meet such needs of our children comfortably. My wife who stays at home shall also be assisting a great deal in making sure that we have some extra income from the farming that we do at home. This shall be my goal this year and beyond until all our children are done with their secondary and tertiary education. We look forward to having the support that we have always had from GiveDirectly to see this come to pass.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does very well by not only giving equal amounts of money to each individual recipients but also doing so in a fair and just manner. Everyone was given an equal opportunity to benefit from the funds as long as they were full time residents of the village. This has led to mutual respect between people within our village and has also brought us together through merry go round contribution schemes. We can only look forward to getting those transfers and it is our wish that thy be increased to help us cope better with the current cost of livinng.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my most recent transfer of $29, I used all of it to clear school fees for one of my children who is currently in their secondary school level of education. This is how this money has been helpful to me all this while. Being a father of four with three of my children already in and beyond secondary level, it has always been my priority to spend any little money that I get in paying school fees for them. I do not depend entirely on this income but I also do farming and work as a casual laborer here in the city. This transfer has always come in handy to help me feel some gaps that I would have found difficult to fill. My wife has also been very supportive with the subsistence farming works that he does at home and this is the only way that we have managed to pool our resources together and afforded to give better education to our children. Our last born will soon start his secondary education as well and this means that I will need more money to keep them in school.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Beginning in March, I plan to save my subsequent transfers in merry-go-round, $10 every month, to raise $200 to buy a cow for milk production which I will sell to complement my income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Your initiative of reminding us of our M-PESA security has been of great importance as it makes us cautious with our mobile money curbing chances of conning. I also like the way you survey us after sending us the transfers, the follow-ups keep us accountable.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a father of four working as a shop attendant for survival. All four kids are school-going, one is in college, two are in secondary school, and one is in primary school. Since it was school opening period, I used $20 to buy them school-related items such as books and pens and gave them a portion for transport. I spent the remaining $9 to buy food that lasted us for four days.
