How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Had I not received the transfer I would still be depending on my spouse. Thanks to the Give Directly transfers I was able to start up a business. Being independent is the best feeling ever. I can now budget and meet my needs on my own without depending on someone's money.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give Directly does well by giving cash to individuals without any conditions. I would urge them to continue helping people since they are doing a great work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought building materials with the second transfer which I have already used to construct a bigger house. The previous house was too small for us but we had to squeeze in it which denied us privacy. I am glad we currently have a separate room from our children's room. ln addition to that I opened up a business and now I have a reliable source income. I am nolonger iddle and rely on spouse since I have my own business.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I can still remember vividly just like the other day and 1 PM when I received a message notification. Since I am illiterate I decided to ask one relative to check who has sent the message. On checking, he realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I was overexcited because I knew all my goals are now achiveble.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The livestock that I am currently keeping in my compound is the most valuable asset that I can proudly mention. Having a dairy cow, an ox, and goats in my compound makes me believe that very soon my life will transform positively. First, from the sale of milk from the dairy cow I believe with time will be a potential and getting good returns. Also when the goats reproduce and multiply i will sell the offsprings since they normally mature faster compared to any either domestic animal. With time the I will have calculated the money and start a hotel business which will be an additional income. Therefore I do believe that I will no longer have to struggle in paying my bills as I used to.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying a dairy cow and an ox and four goats worthy of KES 46000. It has been my desire to keep them in my compound but I could not afford them because they were too expensive considering the fact that I am a casual laborer. I later bought several building poles, timber, and iron sheets purposely for the renovation of my house since it was in a poor state and almost falling. With the amount of money that remained, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Being a housewife, My ambition has been to start livestock rearing especially goats to assist my husband who is a charcoal vendor in raising our family. Receiving this money means I will fulfill my dream since I am planning to purchase 10 indigenous goats at $35 each. I will use the remaining amount to construct a two-roomed house for my family because the one we have is small and has forced my 3 daughters to seek refuge from my neighbor every night.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day. I spend My mornings doing house chores up to afternoon where I engage in my Aleo Vera juice tapping. These activities spend a lot of my energy and left me tired. It is in the evening that I can rest my body hence I consider it as my happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financially instability has been my biggest hardship in my life. I have been depending on casual labor of Aloe Vera juice tapping and charcoal burning for my family upkeep. This activities is laborious and earn me utmust 1.5 dollars per day which Ispend it on food.
