How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After buying livestock, foodstuff, and even clothing for my , I am really pleased that I cleared the school fees for my two kids. This has given me peace of mind and finally eased the planning of other projects. I had been thanking God especially over this season where most of the school children have been sent home to collect their school fees while mine had been in school the whole term with no interruption at all. This is the biggest difference in my daily life so far since many times, they had been home over such seasons but GiveDirectly has really changed things around and I am grateful.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in assisting the poor households in the community through unconditional cash transfer. I don't see anything that it does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the transfer to boost my livestock rearing project .We were lucky enough that with only 30,000KES, we managed to secure one dairy cow and five goats. We purchased them same day after receiving the transfer since we could not wait as prices are always heightened whenever we receive transfer. I used remaining amount to cater for school fee arrears for my children

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I wasfilled with joy when I saw a notification carrying a message that I had received KES 55000 to my mobile money account. Before, I couldn't afford smile because of stress on how to met my family needs. The message changed how I was feeling and couldn't hide my joy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my children are now happy that the got some milk to drink. When I couldn't afford to buy some milk for them, they would always remind me of having another cow so that they don't miss taking milk during meal time. Now they eat so well and are very thankful to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For quite sometime, I have been engaging in livestock trading and it reached a time when responsibilities were overwhelming and I had to sell my dairy cow and spent part of my capital on paying school fees for my children. Since then we would buy milk for preparing tea at home and have none to drink. When I got my first transfers, we sat with my family and my children asked us to buy a cow so that they can have some milk to take. I spent KES 32000 on buying a lactating cow which now gives us milk. I then spent KES 5000 on buying foodstuffs for my family since we had little food remaining in stock. The remaining amount I spent KES 2500 on paying school fees and KES 3000 on buying clothes for my children. I also boosted my livestock business with KES 9000. Now I am picking up and hopefully, I will start making more money through the business.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been struggling to raise school fees for my children since I usually gain little profits from my small business of trading on livestock. As such, receiving this money means that each of my children shall successfully pursue their basic education, and even beyond. This is because I will utilize the transfer on expanding my business so as to attain more profits.
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a peasant farmer and a businessperson, the happiest part of my day is mid-morning when I am working on my farm. This is the time that I toil hoping to reap well in the future. We usually rely on our farm primarily for food items that would sustain us as a family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life was being born and raised in a humble background. My family could not raise school fees for me, forcing me to drop out of school while at Grade 7. Also, I got married at an advanced age since I had to struggle and raise the needed dowry, purchase some piece of land and even acquire some resources that would be used by my new family. Overall, I tend to feel that the relatively poor background of my parents led to these misfortunes and delays.
