How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is far much better than it would have been if I had never received the transfers. Through the transfers, I was able to apply for the Teachers Service Commission number, a requirement for one to be employed as a teacher. I finished school two years ago but I have not been employed since I did not have that number. When I received the first transfer I used part of it for the application. I am optimistic that I will secure a job as soon as I receive the number. I also bought a dairy cow and ten hens, a dream that I was sure it have taken so long to achieve. This has been keeping me busy at home as I believe that one day it will be a source of income for my family. I will be in a position of catering to the needs of the family and also paying school fees for my siblings who are still in school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I love Givedireclty mode of enrollment, the process was very fair. The organization also delivered its promise on time. I did not see anything that it did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the second transfer to buy an ingenious dairy cow to produce milk for both domestic and commercial purposes. I have been longing to own one since we usually buy milk and this is very expensive to me since I currently do not have any source of income. I also bought five hens and food for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving the transfer was the best moment ever for me. It was a joyous moment, thanked God for the great blessing to me and for reviving the hope of fulfilling all that I had promised myself after being enlisted in the program. It was unbelievable that the great chance to make decisions with what I had in my account was finally with me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
With the many changes that have come to existence in my household after receiving the first transfer, the biggest difference in my daily life is the availability of enough foodstuffs and the consistent supply of milk from the cow I bought. In the past, this could only happen after a long day toil in casual labor to earn some money to buy them. It is one pleasurable time for me to see things turning out the way I had always wished for and I am indeed grateful that I am part of this great change.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Investing in livestock came first on our shopping list after receiving our transfer. This came just on the same day after receiving the transfer since we could not wait as prices are always heightened whenever transfers are received. We were lucky enough that with only 42,000KES, we managed to secure two good breeds; a lactating cow and a potentially growing ox. I also obtained a piece of new furniture, clothing for my children, and also foodstuff for my household with the remaining amount.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I shall start earning some income for my family. This is because I will utilize the transfer on purchasing a dairy cow that will provide me with milk primarily for sale. Currently, I am just a housewife who depends mainly on my husband's income, something that makes me feel ashamed and inferior. I thank GiveDirectly for empowering me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Since I am currently a peasant farmer, the happiest part of my day is in the a fternoon when I am returning from my farm. Having successfully accomplished my farming tasks means that my family shall have adequate food items for consumption and even sale of any surpluses to gain some income.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My dream has been to graduate as an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher but lack of fees has made me not to pursue my studies past the certificate stage. Accordingly, I have never managed to secure a formal job. Besides, my age is advancing, meaning that I will have to work for fewer years in case I manage to complete my course. Thus, the biggest hardship I have faced in life is the lack of funding, something that makes my dream to slowly fade away.
