How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer. This is because I have an addition of a dairy cow and this is an assurance to me of an increase in income. Also, having a water tank is an achievement to my family and has brought a lot of happiness to my children. This is because they now have enough time to study in the evening after school as they no longer go to the stream in search of clean water.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in all their operations and I do not see anything that they do not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, I bought a water tank worth KES 10000. We settled on this as a family so that we can use it to harvest clean water for drinking and domestic use. I am now glad since my children will no longer be walking for a longer distance looking for water especially during dry season. Also, I spent KES 35000 to purchase a dairy cow. This is an addition to my herd and it will enable me to earn more income from the dairy farming. On average I usually earn KES 150 daily through the sale of milk and with the addition of the dairy cow, I am happy that this amount will increase. Using the remaining amount, I bought food to last my family for some time.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received my transfers happily around 6.40 AM and went straight to a Momo agent. I wasn't sure who has my pin and I was also afraid swappers because they are many in our place.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I can now comfortably do farming due to lack of water. Before, I used to plant onions which used to take longer time to ripen than required due to lack of water because our place is a dry terrain. The chicken layers have acted as a quick of source of income as compared to before when I could hardly get.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent 200 dollars of my transfer on purchase of water pipes and water installation for domestic use and irrigating of my crops. I spent KES 240 dollars on 26 layers to aid in payment of school fees and 50 dollars on layers mash. I also spent KES 100 dollars on a young bull in order to rear it because it grows fast and later exchange it for heifer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I greatly thank God and GiveDirectly for timely support. Receiving this money means that my onion farming project shall improve immensely. I will utilize the money in purchasing and installing water pipes and pump on my farm irrigating my farms. Accordingly, I look forward to huge harvests as opposed to my usual practice of relying on the unpredictable rains in our area.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am resting and socializing with my neighbors after accomplishing my farming activities. This is the moment that I get to updates on how my neighbors are doing.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Doing crop farming in an area with unfavorable climatic conditions has been the biggest hardship I have faced in life. I have been realizing poor yields and subsequently low income from my onion farming. Hence, I have not managed to do other developmental projects or even improve our living standards.
