How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I never received the transfers from GiveDirectly, I would have not been able to fully pay college fee for my son who is in his last year of study. I had been struggling through casual labor to pay his college fee in bits, but when he succeeded to proceed to the last year of his study we used GiveDirectly's transfers to clear his fee. The school administration compelled us to settle all the arrears before he could report back to the college. I managed to comply with the transfers I received from GiveDirectly. I also spent my first transfer on buying high-quality iron sheets, and I now aspire to build a permanent house since such iron sheets are not suitable for a mud-walled house. I will have a nice presentable house. This too could have not been achieved were it not for the money from GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in transforming lives of the people through direct cash transfers. By sending money directly to the people enrolled in the program, it has reduced corruption related cases in areas it has been working at. There is nothing GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on paying school fees for my son who is currently enrolled in a tertiary college. Although I have been working extra hard to raise for him fees to go back to school through casual labor, towards the opening day, there were no jobs thus I was not able to raise the amount that was needed for his last year of study, given that he was required to pay all the fees on an opening day. Thanks to GiveDirectly for sending me the transfers when I was in dire need of money to settle my son's fee. At last, he managed to go back to school and will be able to learn for the whole year-comfortably. I am optimistic that he will graduate being his last year in college and maybe get a job.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
In as much as I have not yet had so much usage with the cash that was sent to me, I was able to buy forty nine iron sheets that I will use to construct a new house when I get the second transfers in January. The house that I intend to build will be much bigger than what I have today. I will be able to comfortably accommodate my visitors and family members who come visiting in a very comfortable manner without feeling the shame of hosting people in a small structure that can barely host even five people.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so happy when I received the cash because I knew that finally my housing problem was coming to an end after years of having the dream but lacking the ability to solve it due to lack of cash.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I was able to buy forty nine iron sheets that I plans to use to build a new house. The house that I live into day is in such a pathetic and dilapidated state and my fear is that it may even collapse on me especially during the rainy seasons. Moreover, the house is too small and cannot accommodate my family comfortably, we are only forced to squeeze ourselves within the small structure that barely is enough for us.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money makes me so happy. I will use it to repair my house which is almost falling apart.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am sleeping after having dinner.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of a stable job to get a stable income. I am a casual worker and this job is never guaranteed. This means that my income too cannot be guaranteed. This, therefore makes it difficult to provide for my family's basic needs like food and clothing. Even paying school fees for my children is not easy.
