How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have been able to buy a dairy cow which is an added asset to my household. I will depend on this in case of financial crisis. Also, my son has been able to continue with his college studies. Due to this, I believe that he will be graduating very soon.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well by giving us unconditional cash transfers that has enabled most of us to achieve our goals.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I settled to buy a dairy cow and a heifer as a way of saving my second transfer. When they reproduce, my family will have enough milk for their consumption and sale to earn an income. I spent the remaining amount to buy two sacks of maize flour and other households necessities.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it was costly for me because it was on a daily basis. I do casual jobs in the village and the amount of money I could get is only enough for the basic needs. Nowadays I have enough milk for my family and also I sell the surplus to pay school fees and other households needs for the family. The amount of money I get from the casual jobs I saved it for future needs for the family and to gather for any emergencies.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money I felt so happy because I have never received such amount of money before. I was very early in the morning when my neighbor informed me about the message from GiveDirecly and when I checked my phone there was money and I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy a heifer.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer on buying a dairy cow, clothes, food for the family and the rest of the money I paid school fees for my children in secondary school.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my burden of school fees is reduced.I have one child in secondary school, one in a polytechnic and others in primary school. My only source of income is my farm, therefore there is never any guarantee that I will always raise their fees.Aside from that, they need food to eat everyday. This has always been very difficult for me but I know that this money will be of great help
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. After a long day in the farm,I get time to rest, and spend some time with my grandchildren. This makes me very happy because despite all my daily challenges,I have really tried my best to provide for them this far.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My family consists of eleven people; nine children,my spouse and I.Imagine having all these mouths to feed without any income! It is difficult especially when coupled with all the other daily needs.Four of these children are my daughters' and they left them under my care. Therefore,I go through a real struggle to make sure that they are provided for. This is the biggest hardship I have faced
