Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
With my grand daughter at home that morning, we were very excited to receive a message that confirmed the receipt of the first transfer. She confirmed to me that I had received KES 55,000.We went and withdraw the money later in the day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The construction of two roomed house is so far my biggest difference in my daily life.Even though the house is not yet completed we are hopeful that is soon it will be complete.I am grateful to Givedirectly for the support that has made the construction possible.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With the first transfer,I spent KES 35,000 in construction of a two roomed house. We had been living in a single house roomed which use to leak during rainy season. The house is almost complete and we will soon move in.I also saved KES 6,000 which will use for any emergency that I may encounter. With the remaining amount,I bought food for my household members.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I lost the only son that I had years ago and this disturbed me since he was the only one who would help me. I live alone now that my daughters have been married and the house that I live in was built by my village people. It is old and I have planned that when I receive the transfer, I will use part of the money to build a bigger iron-roofed house for myself and convert the old one into a kitchen. This will give me space to host visitors, a place to store my things well, and also harvest rain water for use during the rainy season.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have not lacked anything in the last six months thanks to the help given to me by my daughter-in-law and my village members. Being old and unable to do jobs to support oneself is tiring at times but having people who support me has brought me joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraint is the major challenge that I am currently facing. I am old and the the only thing left for me to do is to tend after cows to get milk for sale. The amount that I get daily cannot exceed two liters and the money that I get when a sell a liter is less (KES 40 daily). I am not able to do much in my life with the little amount that I earn from selling milk.
