How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having built my spouse a permanent kitchen that she had requested me for a while is a big difference. I had always wished to build her the kitchen but I had to prioritize my children's school fees. I am glad that these transfers from GiveDirectly helped me meet my spouse's desires and I am fulfilled seeing the joy that the new kitchen gives her. The transfers also went along way in helping me plan and pay my children's school fees and I am happy that I would not need to worry since I kept aside some of the transfer for the next term's school fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the officers from GiveDirectly were fair and they worked very professionally. They were not influenced by the local administration or any other person. I won't change a thing since everything was well planned. Congratulations to GiveDirectly for a job well done!
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent KSh. 12000 of the second transfer to pay my son's school fees. I also spent some of it on food and other household items for my family and saved the rest of the transfer to help me later in school fees payments.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the ability to construct a house while still handling the matter of school fees for my children. The school fees need had rendered me unable to construct the structures and house we needed at my homestead. I was focusing all my resources on educating my two children in various universities and in secondary schools. But the money from GiveDirectly gave the resources with which I was able to build a house. I am now happy to say that we are comfortable at home even as we struggle to educate our children.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Joy swept through my household the moment I notified my family members that we had received the money promised by GiveDirectly. It caught me by surprise when one of my neighbors told me that he had received it. I then checked my account and confirmed it. I immediately started collecting building materials and looking for a good house construction worker because I needed the best service for my wife's kitchen.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the first transfer on constructing a kitchen. I decided to build one because my wife had requested me for a long time though I didn't have enough money to do so. When I received transfers from Give Directly, I gave her request the first priority. I bought roofing sheets, timber, cement, ballast, and sand. Part of the money went towards labor charges. I feel good because I finally fulfilled my wife's promise.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my children will continue with their education come January 2020. One of my children had dropped out of school because I could not afford to pay for his fees. Thank you GiveDirectly
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when we are enjoying supper with my family. It makes me happy to see my children narrate the events of the day as we plan for the next day's work
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a farmer who solely relies on farming to provide basic needs for my family, my biggest worry is that my children will not pursue their education in college because my finances have been dwindling as a result of crop failure for the past 7 years.
