How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My previous goal was to allocate $20 from each monthly transfer to cover the outstanding school fees for my three children. This remains a fundamental goal for me, as I am determined to ease my financial burden and ensure that my children's education continues without interruption. The educational expenses for my children are not diminishing, which is why I lay emphasis on supporting their education. By consistently setting aside $20 from my monthly transfers, I know I will be able to fulfill this aspiration and provide them with the educational opportunities they deserve. Their education remains my utmost priority, and I will continue to make every effort to support and invest in their future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my view, GiveDirectly excels in various aspects of its program implementation. One notable strength is the consistent presence through regular visits by the staff members and follow-up calls to assess the impact of the transfers on our lives. This level of engagement demonstrates the commitment to ensuring the effectiveness of its interventions. Additionally, the equal distribution of the transfers to all participants has had a significant positive effect in our villages, leading to a remarkable decrease in theft cases. From my experience, GiveDirectly has consistently performed well. I have not witnessed anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For the past for months, I allocated $20 monthly to cover the school fees of my three children who are currently enrolled in school. It brought me joy and satisfaction to see them progressing well in their studies. Without the additional support from GiveDirectly's monthly transfers, my casual jobs alone would not have been enough to consistently pay their fees. As a result they could have occasional instances of them being sent home for fee collection. However, I am grateful that I could rely on the remaining $9 from the transfers to supplement our nutritional needs. As a result, I faced fewer struggles. My casual wages were diverted to meet other important needs of my family. I am thankful to GiveDirectly for the continuous support through the monthly transfers.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the upcoming year and beyond, my primary objective remains straightforward yet crucial: I will continue allocating $20 from every monthly transfer towards settling the outstanding school fees for my three children. I am committed to upholding my pledge of sending $20 per month from my monthly transfers, both to ease my financial burden and to ensure uninterrupted education for my kids.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly's approach of providing equal transfers to all of us has fostered a sense of unity and harmony within our community. We're no longer divided by disparities in financial status, but rather coexist well with each other, working together towards common goals. Besides, what sets GiveDirectly apart is their commitment to understanding the real impact of their assistance. The follow-up surveys conducted every two to three months not only help the organization gauge how these transfers have transformed our daily lives but also encourage us to spend our transfers wisely.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have three children attending secondary school – two daughters and a son. Ensuring their education is a fundamental concern for me. Whenever I receive my monthly unconditional cash transfer, I make it a point to set aside a portion for their school fees. I have established an agreement with the school administration, pledging to contribute $20 from each transfer I receive, and I have faithfully upheld this commitment with my latest transfer. With the remaining $9, I managed to buy food that sustained us for two days, helping us mitigate the challenges of the rising cost of living.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main focus is raising enough money for my children's school fees. I have three kids in secondary school, and my income from casual labor is insufficient. Going forward, I will set aside a percentage of my future transfers to help pay for their school fees because a bright future is guaranteed for them through education.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly, in my opinion, does well by providing everyone with equal transfers, allowing individuals to coexist happily. Many lives have been transformed because of the transfers, resulting in an improved standard of living.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have two secondary school-going children, one in form two and the other in form three, who owe the school $95 in fee arrears. The huge arrears caused me to lose my peace of mind, so I promised their teacher that I would pay something little through the transfers and my income from the casual jobs I usually engage in to help reduce the burden. To keep my commitment, I used $20 from my most recent transfer to pay part of the school fees and spent the remaining $9 on food for my family.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have a daughter who did her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations last year and is supposed to join form one this month. I have bought her school uniform and other stationery. She is required to report to school with a school fee of $60. I have already saved her $20, pending $40. I will continue saving part of my income in bits to raise the remaining $40 to enable me to take her to school before the end of this month.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I like the project's design of giving equal transfers to everyone in the village. Giving similar amounts of money reduces cases of conflict and hence makes people coexist well with each other. In addition, I like the surveys that are usually conducted by the organization to check on our progress.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a father of six working as a casual laborer while my wife is a subsistence farmer. All my six children are school-going, two are in secondary while four are in primary school. When I received my previous month's transfer, I spent $20 of it to pay school fees for my two kids in secondary school. Settling part of the fee arrears helped reduce my financial burdens. I used the remaining $9 to stock more food which lasted us for a week. Having enough food in the house made me enjoy a great piece of mind because it saved me from the high cost of living for a few days.
