How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different because I was able to settle college and school fees to my children. Had I not received this transfer, my daughter would have taken long time to graduate and the younger one would not have joined high school because I had used all my savings to buy medication to their father who is currently struggling with sickness.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly did well in that they never excluded any other family from participation high level of fairness and open. They did not do anything wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the second transfer to settle college and high school fees to my children who had been sent back home for the fees. It is our hope that she graduates and get a job and start helping us since we are already old and on retirement without any reliable source of income.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
There is no worst feeling than losing a job. Since my husband lost his job, it has never been easy for us as a family. I rarely sleep thinking of where we will get the next meal or even the next terms school fees for my children. When I go to bed, the best I can do is to stare at the ceiling, tossing in bed and thinking who was going to give me the next casual job to help me pay school fees or even buy food. This is not the case since I received money from GiveDirectly. I have peace of mind, honestly, I have been having deep nights of sleep now since then. I feel like my load is lighter now as my children were able to stay in school for the whole term without being sent out for fees and the only worry now is to look for daily meals. At least one load at a time.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 5 am in the morning when I received a call from my neighbor "Mama Spencer" to mean Spencer's mother, have you checked your phone? she asked me, she did not greet me and my heart skipped a bit since it was too early for such a call from a neighbor, I thought it might be someone is sick or even someone has passed on. This was not the case, she instead told me that, "our people have sent us the money," I got confused, I was not sure whether to wake up or continue sleeping. I was so happy. I knew that all my problems were over. I am still happy as we speak.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have children who are in secondary school and college respectively. To keep them in school, I have to do casual jobs and to pay their school fees which most of the time I do not pay in full as the school requires of me. This means that d sometimes they could be sent out of school which makes me confused where to get the money. This has been so difficult for me since my husband lost his salaried employment five years back. It was not any different when I received this money as at that time, my children were home, having been sent out of school for not paying their fees. I immediately spent my first transfer to pay their school and enabled them to go back to school immediately. I got relief at that time. We were so happy as this time they did not overstay home as it has been previously.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means improved education for my children. I would like to spend the transfer on paying school fees for my children. The best inheritance I can give to them is education with hope of securing better employment opportunities.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I get some little profit from my small business and buy food for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing in life is unreliable source of income. My husband is jobless and we have a lot of bills to settle including fees for the children. Most of the time they are sent home and miss lessons. This makes me unhappy as it interferes with their academic performance.
