How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different from how it before I started receiving transfers from GiveDirectly in that, I was able to give a helping hand to my brother with ease. I was able to take him to college for eight months. He is almost finishing and I can't wait to celebrate on his graduation day. I know the certificates he will have acquired will help him secure a job with ease. This will enable him to help us too by improving our living standards and even educate our younger siblings. Some of the budgets have reduced because my father is now able to take care of some of our needs since he went back to his business after buying him a sewing machine.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to look for a stable job. I am planning to go back to college and I need the money that will help me pay school fees and sustain me. I know that once I graduate from college, I will have a certificate to show for the skills that I will have acquired which will intern make me ready for the job market. I do not want to continue doing casual jobs which are unreliable and this is why I thought of this idea.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought a sewing machine for my father. He had an old one that was stolen a few months ago. He has been jobless for some time now and I felt It was wise to revive his business by buying him another machine because he usually supports us especially when he makes good sales from this business. I am glad that he is now back to work. Apart from that, I also paid college fee for my brother and bought him a laptop. He recently joined college. He had stayed at home for a year without any hope of making any progress because my parents were unable to take him to college due to lack of money. I feel good that he is now in school and he is now hopeful of having a successful life.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it would have been had I never received the transfer in that I managed to pay school fees for my sister. Had I not received the transfers, my sister could not have gone to school since my mother did not had any source of income. I was also able to clear all debts I had borrowed and pay my house rent without any challenge. I have been struggling to cater for my personal needs and family needs with little money I got from from casual jobs. Thank you Give Directly since I used my transfers to start a new business and I can get some income to cater for my family needs.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to built a new house for my mother. This is because currently she is living with my grandparents in the same compound and her house is small and cannot accommodate all my family members. The house she is living in is not leaking during the rainy season and my siblings can get flu during the cold season.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend my most recent transfer to pay school fees for my sister who was joining secondary school. This is because my mother had no money to pay since her contract ended in the flower farm where she was working. I also used part of my transfers to pay my house rent since I had not paid and the landlord had come for the money. I give out the remaining amount as church offering to thank God for the blessing in my life.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
I have been thinking about different business ideas such as opening a movie shop, or matt making because I want to start my own business with the next transfer. I still don't have a definite one in mind, but I am sure by the time it comes, I will have a well-thought business idea with a great plan that will ensure its success.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have always felt responsible for my mother's sufferings taking on tough jobs just to raise the money to clear the loan she took to pay my college fees. Now that most of the loan has been repaid and the other part will soon be cleared, I am happy and relieved that my mother can now focus on providing for her family and even buying some personal items such as clothes that she has always denied herself in the past.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I gave part of the money to my mother to clear a loan she borrowed from her table -banking group last year to clear my college fees in order to be allowed to sit for the final examinations. I used the remaining amount to pay my brother's school fees and part of it to pay our rent.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
I had not expected the money to come so soon after registration, so I was pleasantly surprised. The first thing I thought of doing was posting on our group's WhatsApp channel to inform the rest of the good news, but then I realised I was late because everyone was already there praising and thanking GD.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I have chosen to first renovate my parent's house back in my rural home because whenever we travel upcountry we have no place to stay/sleep. This causes a lot of inconveniences for us. My second priority is starting a business so I can have a profitable venture to sustain my living. I also hope to assist my parents to pay school fees for my younger sister with part of my transfer and also part of what I will get from the business that I will invest in
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is accumulated debts because I live in constant fear anytime I owe someone money as I always feel they might humiliate me or harm me when they come to claim their debt. Crime and violence is also a concern I worry about as I have seen people lose their lives, get hurt badly, or lose important belongings because of crime. I worry about Sustaining a living also because I would feel stranded and helpless if I cannot meet my needs.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I love watching movies, and I have realised even my neighbors and the people in my surrounding enjoy movies. Because of this, I hope to own a chain of video shops and eventually a cinema in a Central Area where many people can come and pay to watch movies. I feel I will have ready market already when I open my own video shop.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
I usually spend my days assisting with house chores around the house and preparing my son and my two nephews for daycare and kindergarten. When I get some time I try to look for any available vacancies that I can apply, either in the newspapers or I ask friends and family. In my free time I enjoy watching movies and filling puzzles.
