Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
It has been my desire to have a good and decent house for a long time. I could not achieve this dream due to the financial constraints I was facing. However, my yearning was finally fulfilled with the coming of GiveDirectly to us because when I received my first transfer, I purchased adequate building materials such as iron sheets, building poles and other essential materials to facilitate its construction. I am glad that my house will be completed over the next month, which makes it be the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was woken up by a message very early in the morning and I was curious to know who could have sent a message at that hour. On checking to confirm, I could not contain the joy that I felt when I realized that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I thanked them for their financial support which would uplift my living standards.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 40000 of my first transfer to purchase building materials such as iron sheets, nails and building poles for the construction of a bigger house. The house that I lived in initially was very small and could not accommodate my family. I am happy that my new spacious house will soon be completed and ready for shelter. My children will no longer seek shelter elsewhere at night. The financial help allowed building a decent house, which I could not fulfil at my own cost. I spent the remaining amount to cater for my household basic needs such as the daily provision of food as well as paying for other household expenses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
A decent house, owning livestock and starting of vegetables business is what receiving this money means to me. I was married with the hope of living a happy life, but this dream has never been the case because, I am a house wife who majorly depend on my husband's brick making business. His job is very tiresome and it's income is very low such that it cannot fully support our basic needs. This has forced me to live in a disastrous house that can easily be blown away by the strong wind. Receiving this money means constructing a decent house for myself, buying livestock especially goats and sheep and the remaining amount will support my husband to start a vegetable grocery business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I usually spend the better part of my day doing house work. Since I am a house wife, I mostly wake up in the morning and prepare my children to school. Thereafter, I work at my farm up to noon. When I come back home, I am so exhausted but still, I am forced to go and collect firewood to use in the evening. It is only in the evening when I get ample time to rest and share meals with my family. Therefore, I consider evening as the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a house wife with no reliable source of income is my biggest challenge. I majorly depend on my husband who is doing brick making business. His job is very labour intensive and it's income is usually not enough to support our family's basic needs. This has forced us to live a miserable life that has subjected us to mockery. Therefore, I consider lack of reliable source of income as my biggest hardship.
