How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is more effort than how it would have been becasue I managed to construct a decent modern house. The previous one was a single-roomed grass-thatched hut and very small. Every year I had to change the roofing becasue they were temporary which was very expensive. Also whenever it could rain especially at night we all had to vacate and seek shelter from our neighbors. Therefore after receiving the money I had to think of a permanent solution to avoid the stress and the annual loss. Also, I managed to clear fees for my children and even paid for the next term in advance to avoid them being sent home now and then.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectoy does well because I am now a changed person through them. First, they did well by helping me financially because this made it easier for me to plan on what I was lacking in my household and buy. Unlike the other organizations which send the items eg foodstuffs among others. Actually, this is the best organization so far.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 5000 of my second transfer on clearing the school fees arrears for my children who are still in primary school. Also, I bought goats a worthy KES 3800. This will now serve as the living asset that I will always lean on, considering I will have many of them soon. In addition to that, I bought a solar panel and it now helps in lighting my house at nght and charging my phones and those of my neighbors at a fee. Also with the remainingamou of money I am using it to buy foodstuffs for my family and some household items.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I can still recall very well it was exactly 9 AM when I was at the farm harvesting cowpeas then I heard my cellphone ringing. Because I am illiterate I told my daughter to check what the message was all about. Shee told me it was from Give Directly and they had sent me my first transfer as promised during the enrolment. I remember screaming and jumping with joy since I had never received such a huge amount of money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily is that I managed to construct t a decent spacious house. This has been my dream house for quite a long time but could not afford it because the materials were so expensive and I had some other household needs to cater for. The previous one was a traditional house with some grass-thatched roofing. In every winter season, I had to seek shelter from relatives and in the summer I could sometimes attack by some harmful animals. Also since the house was small, I had to keep my properties under the tree and this made most of them being stolen by unknown people. After the completion of our house, this problem was solved. I am glad that we now stay comfortable and my children have ample space and time. This makes me hopeful and happier because it's an assurance that they will improve in their academic perfomance.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, nails, and threads. I purchased all these with the intention of constructing a new house since the recent one was a small hut with a grass-thatched roof. To add to that, I paid the mason KES 5000 as the labour charge. Also, I cleared school fees arrears for my children and bought some stationaries as well. In addition, I bought goats as the living assets that I could depend on. For the remaining amount of money,I bought enough foodstuffs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I'm planning to use 550 dollars to construct a descent and spacious four bedroom house for my family of eleven. We live in a squizzed house that can not sustain my entire family. The four bedroom house will provide one room for my husband and I, two rooms for my children and one room for any visitor who might come to check on us. In addition to this, I'll use 300 dollars to buy two indeginous dairy cows for milk production both for domestic use and for sale. Cows
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time I use to take dinner relax after a busy day in the forest burning charcoal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of a decent and spacious house for my family. The house I own isn't enough for my family to live in. Some of my children are forced to sleep at their grandmother's house.
