Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
How I felt when I received my money from GiveDirectly: I was lying down in my room on October 19, 2021 around 8:00 AM when my son came to me to tell me that people from our town have received money from GiveDirectly on their mobile money account. I immediately give him my phone for us to check my account; when we checked it, I was happy to know that GiveDirectly sent mine. I felt so happy that day because it was a great help to me and I was not expecting it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly: I was sick and dying slowly but didn't know because I never had money for check-up; but since I started receiving transfer from GiveDirectly, I was able to go to the hospital to do my check-up and start my treatment immediately. If GiveDirectly had not help me, I don't know if I could have been treated because I don't have anyone to help me. My husband has divorced me and he don't want to know about me though we are living in the same house but separate rooms.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
What I spend my most recent transfer on: I have been suffering from diabetes for sometime now but I didn't know because I never had any money to do my check-up. When I received my first transfer from GiveDirectly, I went to the city hospital to know what was happening to me because I keep reducing in my body. After the check-up, the doctor told me that I have diabetes and need to be treated; so I used part of the money to start my treatment. I also used some to buy food and to settle my son school fees.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I plan to sponsor my children in school with the cash transfer and the remaining ones I will used it to treat myself. I am a single mother of two children, one grand child. I have not been able to sent my children to school for the past three years because of financial constrain. Since I caught sick last year march, I have not been able to go for any checkup at the hospital. Now I'm unable to do any work to take care of my family daily needs. Most days other relative in the community are the one who mostly help me with some food kind to cover our daily needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Nothing has brought joy to me in the last six months.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constrain is the challenges I'm currently face with, because of my illness I'm unable to do any thing to take care of my family, sometimes my older son will have to do casual labour to get us food to eat.
