How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
The major difference for me is the cow that I bought few months ago. Were it not for the cash transfers I do not think I would have made such an achievement. With no source of income, it is very impossible to buy a cow like I did.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
Right now I am not into any major plans but the only thing that i can do is just to look for any available casual jobs and probably earn some little cash from the jobs. You see for somebody like me who just left high school the other day, there is no much plan I can lay down at the moment.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference is that I was able to buy a cow that I will rear until such a time when it will be mature. The main reason for buying the cow is because I know that I will sell- it out just in case I run out of finances. Alternatively, my father will use the cow during the ploughing seasons in order to make his work much easier rather than letting the rest of use do the entire job manually.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect to be joining one of the prestigious universities in Kenya to pursue a course in what in education. I want to be a teacher in the future so that I can be able to give back to the society.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I used part of the cash to buy a cow that will most likely give birth in the future and maybe get milk from it. I will also re-sell the calf's and make some cash out of them. Having a cow is an indirect investment that someone makes because when it gives birth I will be getting milk so that I will not have to buy milk form the vendors.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I want to start a small scale business where I plan to open a small shop within the village and make some profits out of it and use the proceeds to feed my family. Even though I have never tried doing this kind of business, I believe it is time for me to give it a try and probably make some cash out of it.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I never had a cow that I l already bought on top of adding some cash to my mother that she used to cement the exterior part of the house thereby transforming it to a semi-permanent housing structure.
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
I expect to buy some chicken in the near future and increase the stock with time so that after one year, the numbers will have increased significantly and I will be at sell them out at some profit.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is lack of finances by my parents to pay for my school fees on time.This affects my performance due especially when I miss classes.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I relax and share with my friends.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
My plans with the transfer is to buy livestock for keeping which will help me live a sustainable life in future by selling the products such as milk hence earning an income.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
I have always longed to get basic education and when I joined high school something I never thought my struggling parents could ever afford to provide, I felt so proud.
