How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly changed a lot of things in my life. There has been a lot of transformation in the agricultural part of my life where I have improved drastically in both subsistence and livestock farming. Imagining how lives would have been if we had never received the transfers, I can say that it would have been very hard. I would not be having a new house at the moment, buying of milk would still be the routine since I would not be having a cow and also my family members together with me would be depending on the old clothing that we had before since we had no money to buy everyone new clothing at the same time. Thanks to GiveDirectly for considering us as part of the program.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has been the mother and father of our villages since they came in. They have really done a lot that even just saying thank you may not be enough. They have really done us proud to a point where we have descent houses, rearing healthy livestock and even farming has really improved. Giving people money to decide what they want to do with was really the best decision in my opinion. At least we had the freedom to decide on what to do as per our statuses. We are praying hard that may GiveDIrectly continue doing the good work they started even to other people.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Since we received the transfers from GiveDirectly, we have been so happy with the progress in developments which we have registered in our household. The two transfers made a really big difference in our lives and we are now way too better compared to the past days before receiving the transfers.
I spent the second transfer on the construction of a new house. We managed to purchase 22 iron sheets and lucky enough we had enough woods in our household to erect a new house. We also managed to purchase a cow which is now producing enough milk both for domestic purposes and also surplus for sale. The cow cost us 33000 KES. We finally spent the remaining amount on buying clothing for all the household members.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that these transfers have enabled me to buy a heifer which will be source of milk for my family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfers I was very happy and felt relaxed because I used to struggle to get capital for my charcoal selling business.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 35,000 on a heifer because I did not have one,KES 3500 on school fees, KES 2000 on a bag of maize,KES 4000 on kid's clothing and KES 7000 I will use for poultry farming.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means alot to me. I will use the money to build a new house, buy a dairy cow as well as buy a small piece of land.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time we take our evening meal as a family and since its the only meal we always afford, we thank God for providing.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship i have faced in my life is poverty. Being unable to get a stable source of income has made our lifes hard since we sometimes lack food to eat in our family.
