Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9am. When I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I called my child to check it out for me. I felt so happy when she said that it was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I have never received such amount of money before. My family members felt so happy too. I knew I would be able to buy a heifer which was always my wish. I am so happy because now I have fulfilled this.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a heifer. Buying milk daily is so costly for me. I do not have a continuous source of income. I depend on small scale farming and this earns me small income. The money that I get is only for household basic needs and I had no savings. I had always wished to purchase a dairy cow but I didn't had the money. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy a heifer. When it reproduce in the next few months I will get enough milk for the family and cut the daily cost of buying milk. I have peace of mind to do other activities without any stress. GiveDirectly has enabled us to fulfilled our dreams and live a better life than before. I am so grateful for the support because were it not GiveDirectly all this could have taken quite some time.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 27,000 to purchase a heifer. I am so happy because I will get enough milk when it reproduce in the next few months. I spent some amount to pay the balance that was left after purchasing a piece of farm from my neighbor. I paid KES 2,000 school fees for my grandson. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes. I am so happy because I have fulfilled all my wish. GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This means i will buy a dairy cow. I have one but the cow cannot produce enough milk to sustain my household needs. A good dairy cow will cost around KES 40000. I have a daughter who lives with me I would also give a share of the transfer since she was ineligible. The remaining amount will use to buy food for my household. This area i prone to drought so we rely on food from market.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. I will be grateful to God for giving another day to live.I will then get to interact with my neighbors. Sharing ideas and any problems that I may be facing.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been insufficient food. We used to depend on maize for commercial purpose and for eating but it has since been affected with diseases. We now have to buy and to get money is also a challenge.
