Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 8 am, I was in my house relaxing while taking breakfast after completing my morning small household chores like cleaning my house and compound. I heard a message alert on my phone, I did not know the content of it, so I had to call my helper to assist me to clarify it. After confirming he informed me that I had received the transfer from GiveDirectly. I felt very happy for receiving the transfer since it symbolized better health for me. I was very sure that I will be able to seek medical care through the transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to seek proper medical care. Currently, I am living a happy life that I was able to heal after the medication, I am very grateful for the transfer that had restored my good health. In addition, I can now meet my daily needs, especially food without struggling unlike before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 550 of my recent transfer to seek medical care for myself. The transfer come at a time when I was sick and I did not have any money to go to the hospital. In addition, I used the remaining amount to purchase sufficient food for myself since we are experiencing drought and famine in our area. I am also planning to use my next transfer to purchase a Solar lamp to light my house. Currently, I am using a dry cell spotlight which requires constant replacement of the battery which is expensive for me. In addition, I will use part of the remaining amount as a fare to visit my younger sister. It is more than 6 years now, I have not been in touch with something that makes me worried about her wellbeing.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have a young sister who was married at Silaloni. A village that is far away from Ikanga and it has been a long time almost seven years and I have not met her. I have had several arrangements at least to visit her but all have been in vain. Receiving this money means it will facilitate me to visit her and get to know how she is faring. I do miss her madly.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My grandchild bought me a metal box. My clothes and documents were scattered all over my room but when I got this metal box I arranged them in an orderly manner and my room is now well-arranged and it looks spacious. This brought me a lot of joy and happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I struggle to hear people, at times someone is talking to me but I am not getting her well, has to raise the volume for me to get the person and mostly I hear faintly. I also have a lot of difficulties in walking and I need someone to accompany me when I want to visit any family member.
