How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have purchased a chaff cutter machine. This machine helps us to cut the napier grass and grass Into small pieces and reduce the wastage. It also saves time and effort. We have dairy cows and feeding them has been so hard and time consuming. There has been wastage of feeds before, I has always wished to own a chaff cutter machine but I didn't had the money to purchase one. I used to give feeds without cutting into small pieces and this was resulting into much wastage. The milk production that time was low. Currently I have the machine and this has given me morale to plant more grass. I am able to cut the hay Into small pieces before mixing together with other forage. This aids the animals digestion and prevent animals from rejecting any parts of the food. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me own this machine. The milk production nowadays has changed compared to when I had no machine. I am so grateful and wished to improve the feeding of my cows and breeds.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.

I spent KES 35,000 to purchase a staff cutter machine. This machines helps us to cut the Napier grass and feed our dairy cows. It saves time and effort. This Leeds to higher milk production in return. The rest of the money I spend on food and clothes for my family members. Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I was at home relaxing, I can remember vividly well it was 9 am when my children came running and shouting towards me informing me that I had received cash from GiveDirectly, we were all thankful and happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is that my business was on the verge of collapsing because we all depended on it for our daily needs, when I received my transfer I boosted my business by bringing in new stock, I also constructed a pit latrine because the one that was there was not decent and safe for use anymore, I thank GiveDirectly for the support which has changed our Living standards

When I received my transfer, I used it to construct a pit latrine because the one that I had before was no longer safe for use because it was risky, The other part of the transfer I used in buying a sofa set to lift our living standards.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
As a retired teacher, my husband is a committed advocate of community health and hygiene. When we receive this money, we are planning to spend $200 to construct a permanent structure containing a toilet and a shower room for us and our guests. This will promote not only our hygiene but also esteem and dignity in the society.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am small business woman, selling maize in a nearby shopping center. I operate my business from the afternoon till evening, while interacting with my friends from the village who are also my clients. This is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
A few years ago, the county government in conjunction with the Kenya Red cross established irrigation systems for our farms. This has greatly improved our agriculture and access to money. Before then, we were dependent on livestock to educate our children. When the sale of livestock products could no longer suffice due to prolonged drought, we ended up selling our cows to for school fees. This rendered us poorer thanks to diminishing assets.
