I have a son who has joined form four this term. His uniform was very old and when he was in form three, I was always ashamed to see him putting on such an unpresentable uniform. Although I had the good intention of buying him a new set of uniforms, I was unable since I had a lot of financial obligations. My income is always low because I entirely depend on casual jobs which are often poorly paid. So when I received my recent transfer, I spent KES 1,800 from the transfer to buy the uniform while KES 1200 was spent on buying a new school bag. I am so glad that he has gone back to school smart and presentable. Thanks to GiveDirectly for coming to my aid.

Give directly has done very well by coming up with this project that sees those living in poverty have an opportunity to a stable income. Now in my village, everyone is aspiring to better their lives by venturing into entrepreneurship. We have also developed a savings culture through chamas. I am yet to note anything that they do not do well.

Other than being a pastor, I also plough for other people's farmlands for a living. When the droughts struck, the demand for my services drastically reduced. This caused me to be financially strained and paying my children's fee became a challenge. I have 3 school going children in my house. 1 is in primary school and the other two in secondary. The total annual fee for the two children in secondary school is ksh67000. Currently, I have an arrears of ksh26000. From the funds I received, I used ksh2000 to reduce the debt and ksh500 for transportation to school.  Other than school fees, I also used the funds in providing for my family's basic needs that included food and clothing where I spent ksh1200 and ksh500 respectively.

I remember that day I had woken up early and even prepared myself as I was going to try to earn some money. I had a couple of projects which I knew would be fruitful. As I was walking on the streets my phone beeped and I was pleasantly surprised when I got to see that it was Give Directly that had sent me the money. I can't thank you enough for changing my life.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now able to pay school fees for my children without any strain. I am also able to put food on the table whether I earn an income or not. There is now a sense of security for my family since I started receiving this money.

I used this money to pay school fees for my child who was constantly being sent home due to the school fees balance. I wanted them to have a fighting chance in passing their exams so they could have a brighter future. I used the whole amount of KES.1200 to pay the fees.
