How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is totally different from how it was before becasue I am now sleeping comfortably in a decent spacious house. The previous one was a traditional hut with a grass thatched roof which was leaking whenever it could rain. At that particular moment, we used to seek shelter from friends which were very frustrating. I had no hopes of constructing a better one becasue I am a widow and a family's breadwinner. The little I could earn from the charcoal business was very little. The house has really brought joy into our lives in a way that we didn't expect. Secondly, my children are now studying without any dustranbacnes, unlike before whereby they could stay home for weeks becasue of the huge fee balances. This is now an encouragement to them and I am also assured that they will acquire g=better grades courtesy of GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDrectly done well in all the sectors becasue the money was sent directly into my Mpesa account. This was the because best part of it since it minimized cases of fraud and bribery. Everyone in my community recived their money as promised. This also showed there was transparency within the organization.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer in paying school fees for my children who are in primary school. They had just resumed from a long holiday and the money came in good time. Also, I bought some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, timber, and ropes. This was for the construction of a new house because the previous one was in critical condition. With the remaining amount of money, I am using it to buy food for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 1 o'clock when I was taking lunch then I saw a message notification on my phone. Upon checking, I realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I knew it was a big relief in my life considering the financial burdens that I had
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now in a position to take at least two meals a day. Before GiveDirectly came into our lives we were malnourished because we could not afford a proper meal. We could at times sleep hungry or take a single meal in a day. This is because I only deepened on casual jobs which were temporary and therefore getting the daily bread was not that easy. I am now happy and hopeful because we are healthier which is the joy of every parent.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, nails, timber, and threads. This was for the construction of a new house because the previous one was almost collapsing. I then paid the mason KES 7000 as the labor fr the job he did. Also, I bought a goat at KES 5000 which will serve as the living asset that I can lean on. Also, I cleared the school fees arrears for my children who reopened schools recently. With the reaming amount of money, I am using it in buying foodstuffs for my family

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a decent house for my family. I live in a grass thatched house together with my children and one grand child. Am planning to use 450 dollars to construct a descent house for my big family of seven.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I get enough time to rest after a long day in the farm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship in life is lack of a descent shelter for my family. Living in a one room grass-thatched house has never been something to smile about. Life has been hard especially during the rainy seasons.
