Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment my transfer came, I had gone for an errand at the shopping centre. Suddenly I had my phone ringing and vibrating in my pocket, Upon checking what the message was all about, I realised that I had received the promised transfer from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with joy, though, I chose not to share with anyone for security purposes. I am so happy that I was given the opportunity for me to transform my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life today is that I own a dairy cow which I was unable to acquire before due to insufficient funds. I can comfortably enjoy a cup of tea every morning at no cost. My children are also happy because of the support that changed our way of life in a short period. I lack words to express how grateful I am for the support that lifted our lives, may the almighty God bless our donors abundantly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my transfer, I prioritised purchasing a dairy cow worth KES 38,000. This is because I wanted to cut down on the cost of buying expensive milk daily. I was unable to acquire one before since I am a casual labourer thus my source of income is not reliable. I thereafter paid school fees for my five children and lastly, I bought sofa sets seats with the remaining amount of the money. I am so grateful for the great milestone that changed my living standards amazingly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means improved health. I have a problem in my throat whereby I cannot swallow food or talk at times. I have looked for treatment but I was required to pay KES 1500 which I could not afford. This problem has hindered my economic activities since sometimes I am in a lot of pain. So when I get this money will seek treatment leading to a long-time solution. I am hopeful that my health will improve and I will be able to fend for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My two sons have been a helping hand. Despite them doing a casual job in a hotel they have managed to build for me a new iron-roofed house. I can now sleep warmly at night and access clean water for drinking. This has brought joy and happiness into my life because my previous house was cold during the night which worsen my health condition.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge is health problems. It has been 3 years now suffering from a throat problem. With this problem, I cannot do heavy tasks like going to the farm. This has rendered me dependent on my children who does casual job in a hotel to fend for me and their siblings. This is something I am not proud of as a parent now that am a widow and I was supposed to be providing for them.
