How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
GiveDirectly has helped me materialize my dream of building a big and better house. This has really changed my life because now I know my children can sleep peacefully and I am not worried whenever I have visitors because now I have enough space in my house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does best in their work because it offers their financial support in a fair way. Nearly every household in my village has benefited from these transfers. We are also allowed to use the transfers according to our needs. I think GiveDirectly does not do anything wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase Iron sheets and other building materials. I previously had only one house, it was not enough to accommodate my family. we had to sleep in the same room with my grown-up children which made me very uncomfortable.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
For so long, I have been buying milk on a daily basis as I did not have a cow. Since I was able to acquire one after receiving my first transfer, I now know that by March next year, I will not be buying milk anymore as my cow will have given birth. This will also make me earn some income through the sell of milk and use the money to buy other things my family will be in need of. The thought of this just makes me happy and have a smile on my face.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6.30 am when I woke up in order to prepare myself for the days work. I took my phone in order to call my friend and check if he could find some work for me to do on that day and that is when I realized that I had two unread messages. Upon checking them, I was overwhelmed with joy as one of the messages confirmed to me that I had received some money from GD. I called my family and shared the good news with them. We then sang some songs and prayed to thank God for His blessings on that particular day through GiveDirectly. My happiness knew no bounds on that day that I even did not even call my friend again.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
For a very long time, I have been buying milk on a daily basis and this is costly. I sometimes do not have money to buy them and we are forced to take porridge prepared from maize flour. When I received my first transfers, I decided to use part of it in buying a cow as this will help me in saving the money I would otherwise use in buying milk. Before I received my transfers, I had already bought 10 iron sheets which I was intending to use in building a house for my family. For this reason, I decided to spend the remaining amount on buying more building materials.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that we shall buy our own cow, and hence have a reliable source of milk for our household consumption and sale of surplus to gain some income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when sharing breakfast with my healthy family. This motivates me for the rest of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced in life is absence of our own cow that could give us milk for consuption. Accordingly, we rely on purchased milk, a practice that demands continuous presence of money. Since we do not have a reliable source of funds, my two kids and the entire family could frequently miss the valuable resource (milk).
