How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I now have nice house that is warm since I used to live in a leaking grass thatched house and it was very cold. When I received the GD transfers, I built a better house with an iron roof and it's now warm.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The planning that you do as GD is good. I have not seen anything wrong.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought seats and solar battery and bulbs. I also bought maize seeds and fertilizer which I planted on a shamba I ploughed with money from GD.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received transfers from Give Directly, I was happy. I knew my dream of owning a decent house has been fulfilled. I woke up earlier than usual, took breakfast and rushed to withdraw it fearing that it might be stolen by online fraudsters
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Owning a decent home is the biggest difference in my life. I never imagine that one day I will live in a iron sheet roofed house. I no longer shy away inviting visitors in my house and the new house has also given me some privacy since I have separate rooms for kitchen, sitting room and bedroom. Besides, since in my community we really value livestock, I am happy because I am a proud owner of one
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the amount I received from Give Directly to construct a new house. The cash transfers received was a breakthrough in my life because the house I initially lived in was small and thatched hence very indecent. One major disadvantage is that since I use firewood as source of fuel for cooking, the smoke emitted was always discolouring clothes and beddings. I also purchased a dairy cow which is almost calving hence no more expenses to be incurred to purchase milk for my family consumption. The remaining amount, I spent it on the construction of a pit latrine because the existing one was old and risky especially to children

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a single mother of seven.I do not have a source of income except for casual jobs I do within the village. The half an acre piece of land that my parents gave me to till does not produce enough to feed my family.Receiving this money will enable me lease an acre of land to plant maize as well as buy a dairy cow. This will assure me of an income from sale of milk
What is the happiest part of your day?
I wake early every morning to prepare breakfast for my children as well as set aside what they will eat when they come back from school at lunch time. This will give me enough time to work till late in the afternoon. When this is done,I leave for nearby farms with the younger ones where I mostly till or weed in order to get by each day.Coming back home in the evening is the happiest moment for me because with what I have earned that day,I will be able to feed my children before they go to bed.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising and providing for my seven children.Casual jobs barely pay enough to buy a tin of flour.Aside from that there are other household expenses like medical and school fees. This has really been a burden for me for a long time. The money I will get comes as a great relief for me and I am so grateful
