How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the moment, my life is so different in that I now have clean lighting system at our home. Before, I would spend alot on buying kerosene and the lighting was so poor. Again, we have good good furniture in our home which are much comfortable.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by coming to our village and support us to change our livelihood. I never noticed anything that wasn't done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying solar lighting system which we use for lighting at our home. I also bought some chairs, bed and tables, previously when someone pays me a visit they had to sit on some old logs. With the remaining amount of money, I bought some household items such as utensils, clothes and enough foodstuffs for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I woke up in the morning and I forgot to check my phone for any new messages or missed calls. I had started engaging myself in everyday chores when one of my children came to the kitchen where I was lighting up the fire and told me that he heard from the neighbors that people have received the transfers. I went and checked my phone and I could not believe my eyes when I saw the SMS saying that I had received a lump sum of 55000/= from GiveDirectly. I was so happy and we celebrated with my children. We gave thanks to GiveDirectly for what they had done to us.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
.This transfer from GiveDirectly has brought a very big difference in our lives. Having bought the water tank, we will be able to collect rainwater and hence we will not be making long trips to the river to draw water. We will be able to get water for household use. I will take care of the two goats that I bought and with time they will multiply in number. The offsprings will be of great help because I can sell some whenever I run out of money and use the money on other things such as payment of school fees. The few utensils that I bought will also help me whenever I have a ceremony at my house and there is a lot of guests visiting. My children too were happy because they got new clothes for themselves to wear. Thank you GiveDirectly for making our dreams come true. May God bless you abundantly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfer from GiveDirectly has helped me in a big way. I was able to buy a 2000 litre water tank. I also bought two goats with some of the money. I also bought a 25 kg bag of rice and cooking fat that I believe is going to sustain my family for quite some time. The money also helped me in buying household utensils, I bought a big sufuria and a big kettle. The utensils will help me whenever I have a ceremony and many guests are visiting my house. I was also able to buy some clothes for myself and that for my children. I have always wanted to buy a water tank because the place where we draw water from, is very far. I was not in a position to do so because I had never gotten a large sum of money that will enable me to buy it, and other household items that were missing in my house. Most of the money that I have been getting, I have been using in payment of school fees for my children. So when I received the transfer, I saw it as an opportunity for me to do the above. The rest of the money that will come after the completion of these activities, I will save them up for my child’s college fees.

I have been dreaming of purchasing a dairy cow. This will assist me to get some income because now I depend only on subsistence farming. Depending on this is not stable because sometimes weather is not favourable. This transfers will assist me to purchase one and others on purchasing a water storage tank.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My day time involves doing a lot of manual work like ploughing my land, fetching water and others. This requires a lot of energy. In the evening is the time I get to rest and enjoy the meal with my family and that is my happiest part of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship I faced in my life is the time I lost my husband. Life has not been easy for me to cater for my family basic needs and also school fees since I had no income.
