Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was happy when I received the mobile money message confirming that I had received KES 55000 from Give Directly. It was a miracle for me as I had never gotten such an amount before.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life is currently different because the transfer has enabled me to build a decent iron roofed house. Had it not been this money, then I wouldn't be having a decent iron roofed house considering the financial hardship that I was facing. Again, I was able to settle my medical bill without borrowing money from anyone. I am happy that now I am well as I was able to get the best medication which I wouldn't afford were it not for the transfers which I had received from Give Directly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on paying for my medication for I was sick and admitted in the hospital. I did not have any money at that time and yet the bill was growing day by day, I don't have to much to pay. The transfers have been helpful here though his condition is not improving yet I have managed to get quality treatment because I have been servicing my bills. The remaining portion, I spent on purchasing building materials for constructing a house. Now we have a good ironed roofed house which is more specious.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been yearning to take my grand child of 2½ years to hospital whose leg was amputated owing to unknown disease. We went to so many hospitals in search of medication but in vain. I am now planning to use 400 USD of my first transfer to take him back to hospital to be fitted with an artificial limb. I will be contended as a grandmother after accomplishing my grandchild's desire of walking again.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After my 2 school going children have left for school early in the morning, I go to work in our 1 acre piece of land where we have grown maize and sorghum. I normally work there during morning hours and use the rest of my afternoon attending to other household chores such washing utensils, fetching water, cooking, among other chores. The happiest part of my day therefore, is in the evening since this is the time I am free and have time to chat with my family members.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced in life is lack of funds to take our grandchild to hospital whose leg was amputated due to unknown disease. We have been unable to raise 400 USD for artificial limb for him owing to the fact we are peasant farmers and we are getting old and feeble to work. Even though we are peasant farmers, what we get from our land which is 1 acre is hardly enough for domestic consumption leave alone for selling. We are great full for Give Directly for their effort and in what we have seen what they have done in other nearby villages.
