My life is different because I was able to start my small scale business where I buy maize in bulk at wholesale price and later re-sell them at retail prices. I do not think I would have launched this business if I had not received the transfers from Give Directly. Apart from that, I have become a large scale farmer where I keep a lot of livestock which includes cows, sheep, and ducks. One advantage of keeping these birds is that I can be able to sell them out anytime when I feel I am financially broke.

I believe that the organization brought a lot of changes in my life as well as other peoples lives in the village. There are a lot of people who built new descent houses which probably they would have never done if it was not for the cash transfers. There are those who also managed to pay the dowry for their wives, something that probably would have taken forever to happen.

I used the money to buy five sheep which so far are doing quite well. One of the sheep has already given birth while two others will also be following suit in the foreseeable future. I know that eventually, the population of this livestock will increase as time goes by and of course I will be able to sell them out and earn some cash in return. The money generated from such transactions will help me in so many ways such as paying school fees for my four children.

The biggest difference in my life since I received this transfer is that I have my own sheep. Before I got married, my mother used to encourage us that we should always strive to have at least one type of livestock of our own. She used to say out this livestock, we could raise money easily and very fast by selling them to help solve other financial needs within the family without having to beg for help or borrow money. This was a good idea and I have always tried my best to ensure that I have my own. Since I only depended on casual work and the income from the same is too little, I have not been able to afford any type of livestock. When I received this transfer from GD, I first thought of my mother's advice on investing hence I went to buy three sheep. I believe now if I have any urgent financial need, I can sell one of them to raise money to solve the issue. For now, I will keep them and hope they will keep on increasing so that I can sell part of the flock to buy cows.

I really felt very good when I received this money. I could not believe that in such hard times in life I could get such amount of money freely and unconditionally. I just had to thank God for this miracle. It took me a while to come back to myself since I was overwhelmed with joy.

I spent my first transfer on buying three sheep which I will use as remembrance of Give Directly because of their financial help and as an investment for my family. I also use part of the transfer to buy ten sacks of maize which I will later sell when the price per kg rises from the current 50 KES to 80 KES so as to help me raise money to meet my family needs. I can also use the money from the sale of maize, to start a hotel business which will be my stable source of income so that I don't rely on farming alone. The remaining part of the transfer was used to hire labourers who helped in weeding my sugarcane plantation since it was very bushy.
