How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I built a new modern house that is spacious with plastered floor and installed with solar lighting system. I used to live in a single room house with leaky roof and dusty floor prone of jiggers and the lighting system was tin lamp that emitted dangerous smoke to the eyes and the respiratory track. My children find a nice environment to play, study and sleep. I no longer beg sleeping spaces when it rains that could eventually turn to be the gossip of the village. I count myself blessed among those who needed the help most. Thanks to GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly shed light in a community that was almost sinking in a boat of poverty. People used to miss meals, malnourished and emaciated without any hope weather they would get a meal a day or not. People built houses, bought chairs, paid school fees for their children, installed solar lighting system unlike before when they used tin lamps full of harmful smoke to the lungs and eyes. I have not experienced any thing that GiveDirectly never did well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the transfer on buying materials that were used in plastering the floor of my house that was dusty and full of pot holes. This area is jiggers prone and without proper observation of sanitation, they can easily attack people. I spent some part on buying food for my children and the remaining part on paying their school fees. Thanks for GiveDirectly that gave me power to meet the needs of my family without going begging.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I live in a spacious house. I am glad that we sleep we fit well in the house unlike before where we could sqezee the tables and chairs for my children to sleep.

The moment I received the money I felt very happy and started praying because I knew that I will be able to build a decent house.

I spent a larger portion of my transfer on building a spacious house since the previous one was very small and in a very bad condition.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a positive transformation in my life. I shall spend it in rearing livestock which will help me in future to support my children's to acquire tertiary education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening especially after I had succeeded in providing breakfast and lunch to my lovely children. I feel happy and at peace when they are comfortably studying in school.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is difficulty in meeting basic needs required by my children. These include continuous struggle to provide for them as well as paying their school fees.
