How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For me, I had always dreamt of getting a new house but the dream remained to be just that because I did not have the finances required to build the house. I want to thank Give Directly for this noble act because if it were not for the cash transfers, then I would not have built the house to date.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I believe that the organization came up with a good plan of helping the members of the community get out of the poverty level where they used to be before. There are a lot of people who invested in agriculture while others like myself built new houses which is what they wanted the most.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the money on buying new building materials such as timber, sand, iron sheets and water which I used to construct a new two bedroomed house. During the construction process, there are always a lot of miscellaneous expenses which are incurred and it becomes difficult to account for each and every coin involved. I am however glad that I own this beautiful house which I would have never built were it not for the transfers from Give Directly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference since I started receiving this transfer is that I now have a bigger, better and iron roofed house. Prior to receiving this transfer, I have been living in a grass thatched house with a leaking roof. As a result, I have always felt life is unfair because I have tried going for casual work and doing other odd jobs in the village to raise money to buy building materials, but it has not been possible. The little income I have always received has not even been enough for feeding my family leave alone paying school fees for my children. When I received this transfer, I thought of nothing else but a new house which I have been talking about with my wife for a year. The following morning after receiving the money, I went and bought building materials so that I could not get distracted again. I really thank GD for their financial. GD is the reason I have a new house which I could not build on my own.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When I received this transfer, I was very happy. This is because I knew my dream of building a new house will finally come true. I never knew someone could give me money of the same amount free without having to repay. Surely, GD has changed my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the whole of my first transfer on buying building materials such as iron sheets, nails and timber which I have already used to put up a new house. I have been living in a grass thatched house with a leaking roof and for a year, I have been trying to raise money forbuilding a new house but it has not been possible. When I received this transfer, I first thought of building a new house. The other part of the transfer, I used to pay masons who helped in constructing the house and to buy food which they ate as they were working on the house.
