How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Building a better and spacious house is the new goal that I didn't had before I received the transfer. This is because I didn't had the money to buy the building materials. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the amount of money that I get is so small.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better house and to buy dairy cows. The registration process were done well without any discrimination. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent half of the money I received from GiveDirectly on building a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small grass thatched house which could not host all my family members comfortably. The house was so dusty and we were being exposed to dusty related particles. We are six in the family and whenever we had visitors they would spent the nights at my neighbor's house. Currently I have a decent house and I no longer get worried whenever I have visitors at home. I hope to maintain it in a better condition. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my family members. We are so grateful for the support it has changed our living standards.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9:15 am when I heard message tone from my phone. I was doing my daily morning chores. When I checked it I could not believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I have never received such amount of money before. I immediately inform my spouse and children and they really celebrated with joy. I knew I would be able to buy a piece of land. We had always wished to purchase but we didn't had the money. We are so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a piece of land. I had always wished to purchase but I didn't had the money. We live in a small piece of land at home. This has limited us in farming. We do farming in a small piece of land and this result in small harvest. The produce does not last for a longer time. This makes us to buy food diary which is so expensive. I depend on causal jobs in the village and the amount of money that I get through this is so small. I spent that money in purchasing the household items. We had no extra money to save so that we can buy a land. When I received money from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy a land. Currently I do horticute farming in that piece of land. I will get a good harvest this seasons and cut the cost of buying maize. I have devoted much of my time in farming since I own a Piece of land. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me to achieved my dreams. This could have taken quite some time to own it.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 to purchase a heifer. I will be able to get enough milk when it reproduce in the next few months. I will cut the daily cost of buying milk which is so expensive.I spent KES 30,000 to purchase a piece of land. currently I have started to do horticute farming. I will get enough food for the family. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me own a piece of land. This could have taken quite some time to get.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am currently living in a single house and my dream has been to build an iron sheet house. When I receive this money I will build a two-roomed iron sheet house at KES 30000, buy a cow with KES 20000 to enable me to earn a living through the production and sale of milk. I will buy food and clothing for my children with KES 20000 and save the remaining KES 30000 to help me pay fees for my daughter when she joins secondary school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is at 10 Am EAT, this is when I am in my casual job, I am happy because I know that after this job I will earn something to buy food to my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food shortage and hunger have been the biggest hardship I faced in life. I rely on casual jobs to feed my family and what I earn is not enough for us. We at times eat less preferred food like tea and sweet potatoes for lunch or supper.
