Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
When I first received my transfer, my daughter in law was admitted in the hospital and we had no other source of money. We felt grateful that the money came right in time. All along, I have been paying the bill in small quantities and I had been hoping to clear it soon. In the next four months, I have a new goal to start a small milk selling business which will enable me raise some money towards clearing the debt. So far I have tried all other means including leasing out a small piece of land but still it's not been enough. The small business I am starting seems to be the better option as at now since all the profits will be directed towards settling it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Upon receiving the transfers from GiveDirectly, I have been able to accomplish a lot. Among them smaller projects and also bigger projects which are still existing to date. In general, there has been a big difference in my daily life. The biggest difference in my daily life so far is the fact that I am now living in a new house. Initially I was living in a grass thatched house which would always leaking during rainy seasons but I managed to construct a new one with corrugated iron sheets roof. We are now enjoying a warm room, fully furnished and we are grateful for the change.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months I expect to have paid a good part of the hospital debt. We are working hard with my wife on the casual labor trying to make ends meet and also looking forward to other new options since we are much eager to see the bill cleared.

The greatest difference is that now we have a good shelter over our heads. Before we had a house which was grass touched. Now we are so happy having a better shelter.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months I expect to have bought a water tank for water harvesting and buy chicken for rearing so that we can get food or sell some eggs to meet daily needs.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The greatest difference in our lives is happiness which we got after building new houses. We had plans but lack money to built the house but after receiving the money from Give Directly we managed to built a better kitchen and a bigger house.
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My new goal is to buy a water tank to store water for use and drinking. Currently we buy drinking water since stream water is not good for consumption and we use it only for cleaning and other uses.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My daughter-in-law was hospitalized some years back(around 5 years ago) and the hospital bill accumulated to a huge figure. My son was unable to pay the bill and I had to cheep in by selling a piece of my land and using the cash to clear it. Now my arable land was reduced and thereby limiting me to practicing subsistence farming only.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up feeling fresh, energized and ready to work in my farm.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
I am planning to spend my transfer on constructing a semi-permanent house for my family and buy a dairy cattle.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
In the period between 1990-2000, I endulged myself in livestock business(Buying and selling of cattle) which enable me buy all these things you see today among them piece of land, cattle, etc. Furthermore, pride price payment came from the above stated business. For me this is the greatest achievement I am proudest of.
