What does receiving this money mean to you?
The money will meant improving our house and buying beddings. There are six members in my family including myself. Four children, who the oldest is 12 years old plus my husband. On daily basis we work as charcoal maker. Apart from that, we depend much on seasonal farming. From those, I make K7000 ($6.89) per month as highest amount. Then the money is used to buy food and at times I use the money to pay for my children's school expenses. On yearly basis, as per traditional I and my husband are suppose to cut grass for our roof in preparation of rain season. The process is tiresome and it sometimes is boring. Although we does that on yearly basis, we found that the house leaks during rain season. The leak can sometimes be continuous for three days. If that is the case, we are forced to sleep whilst standing. The rains also sometimes distroys our food especially those that we have reserved for future use. I want to buy beddings aswel. Ever since, I have never owned a blanket or a duvet. It becomes difficult especially during winter to my children as I could observed them they aren't warm enough. It sometimes cause them to have colds and fever. Therefore the money will meant buying basic needs such as food, iron sheets, beddings and clothes.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am usually happy in the afternoon because is the time I normally relax after working so hard in the morning. Mornings are meant for fetching water at a borehole which is 10kilometers away which is tiresome.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge that I have face is sickness. I was hospitalized for almost a year in 2020. The sickness affected me so much that I did not manage to farm during rain season. That has increased poverty in the house as all the money that we made, was used to pay for hospital bills and school fees.
