How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I would have not been where I am today if not for GiveDirectly for the gift of financial freedom. I now own my own house and my family can live comfortably in a large house. In addition to that, I have a motorcycle which makes my transport to and from work easy and efficient. My children can now stay in school and concentrate on their studies without worry of being sent home from school as I cleared the school fee arrears.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by going out of there way to change the lives of the people they do not even know or relate to. People's lives in our village have changed tremendously and we can not look forward to their return someday. I am also appealing to GiveDirectly to come back again and see the development we have acquired with the transfers they sent us here to our village. On the contrary, GiveDirectly does nothing wrong. I mean, who would offer to help you financially out of nowhere without expecting anything in return?
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received the transfer I saw the plans of having a new house coming to pass. I started planning on my house construction by buying building materials i.e. iron sheets, nails and timber to build a new house as I did not have a house. I also paid some loan I had taken from a merry-go-round to buy a motorcycle which I use as a means of transport to my place of work. I had been saving my salary towards buying some land and I ran short of some money to fully acquire it. I used part of the transfer together with the savings and paid for the piece of land. I am now a proud owner of the land.

I was so happy when I got the cash from the organization because I was so broke at the time when the money was sent to me so this was a huge relief for me.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the cash to pay for some piece of land I which I have already used to construct my own home. I also managed to pay for a motorbike that I now own. I will use the motorbike to ferry my goods to the market.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a new beginning in my life. I am planning to spend it on buying a piece of land where I shall later build my house. This will to a great deal relieve me from paying rents.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up. I feel more peace in my heart in the morning since every day presents more hope to me.

The biggest hardship I am facing is continuous struggle to pay rent since the job I do is unpredictable and is based on customer needs.
