Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 7 AM when I received the transfer notification and I was extremely happy when I realized that my first transfer had finally been sent. I will forever be thankful to GiveDirectly for financial support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life that I can talk of is the fact that I now own a dairy cow. I have been longing to own it for years but I could not buy it at my own cost because they were very costly. I am hopeful that very soon I will be getting milk for my family's consumption and commercial purposes hence earning a living. Through the money that I will be getting from the sale of milk, I will now be able to cater to my family needs with ease.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 46000 of my first transfer on buying livestock such a dairy a cow and some goats which I am currently keeping in my compound. My greatest expectation is that they will mature, reproduce, and have many more these. I spent the remaining amount to buy some daily foodstuffs for my family as well as paying for other household expenses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest desire is to build my family a conducive and spacious house --ever since my wife separated with us over 7 years ago, life has not been easy and the little money I earn out of farming can hardly cater for food leave alone other basic needs like clothing, decent shelter and education for the kids. And because of the dire situation, my children are forced to seek shelter during the night at my brother's house. Accordingly, I intend to use my first transfers to purchase the necessary building materials. I will also use the remaining part to clear school fee arrears and pay upfront for the next year to ensure my child study comfortably in school. And that is what receiving this transfers means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day. This is the time that I enjoy the most having completed my day's activities. As a farmer, most part of my day is spent at the farm and I always look forward to the evening so that I can rest.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of adequate income to sustain the needs of the family has been the biggest hardship in life. At the moment, I survive from hand to mouth and that has resulted in negative effects on children's growth. Not having a conducive shelter, for instance, has hindered perfect upbringing because I have no control over than during the night and that exposes them to danger and other undesirable habits.
