Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had left my phone on charging and went out to continue with my business as I did not want to go with it yet it was off. I powered it on some few minutes to 4 pm and I was surprised that I had a Mpesa message indicating that GiveDirectly had sent the promised money. I became so happy and immediately informed my spouse who in turn started singing hymns of praises. We are grateful to GiveDirectly for the financial support that transformed our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My children had been informed that they would be sent back home the following week due to fee arrears. I had no money to clear the fee arrears that I had since I had not been paid at the cooler plant where I usually supply milk after buying them from the farmers. With the transfer, I was able to pay their fees on time and I am happy that they're doing well in school and I do not have any debt. This gives me so much joy as a parent and I feel fulfilled that my children can concentrate on their studies without worrying about being sent back home.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, I spent KES 20000 to expand my small business of buying milk from the farmers and selling them at the nearest cooler plant. This business has been my source of livelihood but it had gone down after the outbreak of covid 19. In addition, I spent KES 15000 to pay school fees for my two children in boarding school to avoid being sent back home since I had already been called and informed that they would be sent back home the following week. Using the remaining KES 19000, I changed my family's diet and wardrobe by buying different kinds of food and clothes respectively.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a boost to my small business. I am a milk trade, I usually move around the village buying milk. I purchase a litre at KES 32 and sell at KES 38.50 at near by milk cooler. I do around 60 litres per day. This has been my only source of income to sustain my family needs. I intend to use KES 20,000 to boost this. I am planning to increase my milk production by adding other dairy cow worthy KES 35,000. The remaining amount will go for school fees payment and other family neccessities.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last six months, My dairy cow gave birth. The cow currently produce 10 litres a day that earns mean around KES 385 shillings. This has helped me a lot in meeting my daily family needs and get some money to save hence reducing school fees burden.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge we have faced is lack of stable source of income. From the small business do, after input deduction I earn a profit of around KES 200 a day. All the profit I get normally goes for school fees making me not to expand my business. I have 2 children who are in a boarding school, this normally cost me around KES 13,500 per term.
