How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the next one year and beyond, I hope to be able to improve my poultry keeping project, increase my tea farm coverage and also introduce pyretrum farming. These are my key priorities over the next one year as I aim towards diversifying my farming practices. GiveDirectly transfers shall be very helpful to me in implementing all these.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly was very thoughtful in giving us money in small bits over a prolonged period of time. This has seen us make sustainable investment decisions that will see us make ends meet even after we have ceased receiving funds from GiveaDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my most recent transfer I used part of it to buy food for my family while part of it was used to plant crops in my farm. These were the pressing needs as at that time. I am so happy that I now have enough food for the family and have already planted the crops that we had intended to plant. The money that I receive from GiveDirectly has been very helpful to us since we are three people in one family that gets the money each month. It becomes easier to implement some things when we pool these resources together.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year and beyond I intend to change my farming practices from that of subsistence farming and now to pyrethrum farming. This kind of farming is the latest trend on my community since it gives more money pee kilo compared to other forms of farming. I am sure that I will have more money at my disposal once I start pyrethrum farming. It will boost my economic status and boost me a lot in making ends meet among other investment opportunities. I hope to use the money that I get from my proposal writing job as well as the income that I receive from GiveDirectly to boost this business.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion,GiveDirectly does well by providing us with a regular source of income that we had not imagined would be possible. Because of the fact that the money comes each month and in a consistent manner, we are able to plan ourselves well and do the things that we want to do without being interrupted pr denied. With this transfer, we have also been in a position to access credit facilities something that we would not access before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my most recent transfer of $29, I used $10 to clear debts owed to me at a local shop as I used the remaining amount of $20 to purchase food and other basic household needs for my family. This transfers have been so helpful to me in mitigating the effects of drought especially during the period when there was no harvest from the farms. It has always helped us buy food for the family as well as meet other needs that come by.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I want to venture into poultry farming and also keep some sheep. By doing so, I hope to diversify my sources of income and create a more sustainable livelihood for my family. One of the reasons I am drawn to poultry farming and sheep rearing is their fast multiplication and relatively low maintenance costs. Chickens and sheep reproduce quickly, which means I can quickly build up a sizeable flock or herd. Moreover, their upkeep costs are relatively affordable, making it a feasible investment for me.To achieve this, I will use the money I earn through proposal writing and land surveys to purchase either a sheep or a chicken every month. This way, I can gradually increase my flock and herd, spreading out the financial burden over time while still making progress towards my goal. I am excited about this new endeavor and optimistic about what the future holds. By diversifying my sources of income through poultry farming and sheep rearing, I hope to achieve financial stability and create a brighter future for myself and that of my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
One of the things that GiveDirectly has done exceptionally well is providing a regular source of money. Knowing that I will receive money monthly allows me to plan ahead with confidence. It allows me to budget effectively and make long-term plans for myself and my family. The process was well explained, and I felt fully informed and supported throughout. The ability to receive regular, ongoing payments has been a game changer. It has allowed me to address immediate needs while also allocating funds for future expenses, such as education, and investments in income generating activities. GiveDirectly's commitment to transparency and clear communication has made me feel valued and empowered.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been using the transfer to buy food items for us. The cost of food has skyrocketed lately, and it has been tough to make ends meet. But with this extra cash, it has made a significant difference. The dry season this year was brutal, and it seemed like it would never end. We could not grow anything in our small farm, and the prices of food items shot up even higher. It was a real struggle to put food on the table for my wife and our three children. Thankfully, the monthly transfer came just in time to help us buy essential items. My wife also seeks casual labor opportunities, and she sells milk from our farm to raise additional funds. I on the other hand write project proposals upon request and I also do land surveying for those that want to buy or sell land. We are doing everything we can to provide for our children and give them a better life. These transfers have been a blessing, giving us a bit of breathing room and allowing us to focus on other important aspects of our lives. We are truly grateful for the support it provides us month after month.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am planning to plant avocados and pyrethrum and continue doing poultry farming to broaden my sources of income. I plan on using the transfer to buy the seedlings so that I can plant them in April. I also want to start planting the pyrethrum since they can mature in less than 5 months and are ready for planting. I want to use the income from these sources and start doing dairy farming as my long term goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
It's like we have a salary since you send us the money every month. In the next phase, add more to the transfers and reduce the number of years because of the inflation rate.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been using the transfers to buy household food items and I also bought maize seeds. The cost of food has risen and this forces me to use the money to buy food for my family. I have a family of four, and this money helps me cater for my family's needs. I have doing land surveys and doing project proposals for people to pay me. I use the money from the projects to pay school fees for one of my children who is in high school.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am planning to rear chicken and sheep and venture into intensive livestock farming. This will be possible by planting vegetables and other horticultural crops that will be regenerating and buy the chicken and the sheep which will easily multiply so as to achieve sustainability.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I like the flow payments. If GiveDirectly was to go somewhere else, add more money and reduce the number of years of payment to deal with inflation.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the transfers in buying household food items and bought maize seeds and fertiliser. Our lands have become small and access to casual labour in order to get money to raise money for food has become hard. This is because everyone is doing small scale farming and there is no demand for human resource. The flow of money is therefore minimal. This means that every person has to grow their own food crops.
