How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year I hope to accomplish a lot and on top of my list is to start my own business. I currently operate a tractor to earn myself some income although farming has been dealt a blow die to the current and prevailing drought. It is for this reason that I am thinking of an alternative source of income through business. I am particularly targeting to start selling vegetables in bulk since I have identified some places where I can sell the commodity. This business shall change my life by a great extent and that of my family. Right now I am saving money from the work that I do in order to make this happen the soonest.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does very well by making in house visits to every potential household within the village. This style or doing things sees every potential beneficiary not being left behind in the enrolment process. It also gives the officers an opportunity to tell each beneficiary all the information they may require to know before receiving the transfers. I am so happy that I was part of this program and for the way the officers handles me. There was no any kind of biasness whatsoever from the time the officers came to the time they left. Everything about GiveDirectly was just excellent and straightforward
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am so happy that my house is now fully complete. I managed to use the second transfer to improve my house by erecting ceiling boards. This is a house that I had built even before I had received transfers from GiveDirectly. I therefore used $150 to erect ceiling boards in it and used another $250 to buy a heifer. The remaining amount of $130 was used to buy my own clothes and food as well. I am a father of two children and I rely on farming to raise income to support my family. I am looking forward to a better living standard for my family and I courtesy of GiveDirectly transfers.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I was in Baringo County with my friends. We had gone to work there for a short period. After a long day of ploughing using a tractor, we were tired and exhausted thus, we took a break. Then suddenly I heard my phone ringing and vibrating. Upon checking what the message was all about, I realised that I had received a sum of KES 55,000 from Segovia technology. I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness, I then shared the news with my friends who were equally happy for me. I am grateful for the support that empowered me greatly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life today is that I was able to accomplish my goals in a short period. It was my dream to fence my land for security and safety purposes, but I was unable to realise that due to financial constraints. I am glad that this dream was easily achieved with the unconditional transfer I received. Additionally, I was able to renovate my house. We are grateful for the support that lifted our living standards amazingly and brought so much happiness and fulfilment to our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, my wife and I opted to use the money in renovating our house. We had built a house before, but it was incomplete due to financial constraints. I am a tractor driver, married and blessed with two children. Therefore, I used KES 13,000 to renovate the house. I then bought a barbed wire with KES7800. This is because I saw it fit to fence my land for security purposes. Lastly, we used the remaining amount on foodstuffs and clothes. I am forever thankful for the significant milestone I have achieved in a short span.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I separated from my wife sometime last year in June. I normally work as a tractor driver and I was away when I heard that she had left with our 2 children. I had to come home to take care of the home since no one could attend to the livestock and my properties. Since I am alone, whenever I got out sometimes my livestock stray into other people's farms and this has caused me alot of trouble with the neighbour since we have on many occasions pick quarrels about the issue.I was fined KES 3000 after my cows ate the maize crops of my immediate neighbour. I do not have the peace of mind because of the situation. I have always desired to fence my land to deter this from happening but it has not been possible because of lack of funds. With this help forthcoming my troubles will be a thing of the past and we will coexist peacefully with my neighbours since I intend to use KES 17000 to do fencing a round my farm. I will use the rest of the money to finish up the remaining works in my house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I had a debt with a relative for a long time, since January 2019. He had been on my neck wanting his money back of KES 10000 and it had given me a lot of stress since I had no means of repaying. About three weeks ago I was fortunate to get some money and I repay all the debt he owed me. It was a sigh of relief since the debt had given me sleepless nights. I felt like I had gotten off a burden on my back.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
When my wife left it affected me a lot. Life has never been the same, I am lonely and I miss my two children a lot. I have lived a life of despair since my children mean a lot to me. It is the reason why I had gone out to fend for them, I did not imagine that my estranged wife would imagine doing such a thing to me. At the moment I do not know how my children are doing since I have never been in touch with their mother because she cuts all the communication from me, I do not even know her whereabouts.
