How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life because of the transfers is that I have my own ox plough. I no longer have to rely on others for my farm to be ploughed in time. This is one thing which has never pleased me. In my village, those who do the ploughing business always consider those who have higher amounts of money not according booking yet I do not have the money to pay the amount they require. This is why I have always had to be patient until they are willing to plough for me with my price. In most cases, I am always late with planting which has always affected my harvest. Now that I have my own ox plough, I will ensure I do everything in time so that I can get a good harvest. I will be ploughing m,y farm first then proceed to other's at a price.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In opinion, I feel GD in giving cash to everyone in a secretive way than where the general public sees. In this way, so many people have ended up using their transfers in the best way but had it been given at once for everyone, most people would have lost their transfers.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer on buying a cow as an investment for my family. With the cow, I will get milk when it reproduces which I will be selling apart from the amount consumed in the house. The number of cows too will increase when they reproduce. I also bought Ox plough with part of the transfers so that I do not have to rely on others for my farm to be ploughed. It has always been a struggle and I have always ended up planting late because I did not have the resources to meet the demand at the time I want my farm to be ploughed. Now that I have mine, I will plough my farm early enough. The rest I used on paying school fees for my children in school so that they may not be sent home for arrears anymore and to buy food for my family so that we do not lack anything to eat in the house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference ib my daily life is that a now have a complete pair of oxen and a dairy cow. Previously, I used to own one bull which was still stress because I had to hire the other one for them to plough. Sometimes I could not afford to hire the other one and thus was resulting in getting some low harvests since I could not complete ploughing an acre. I am now a happy farmer because the pair will not only help me in ploughing my farm but also to my neighbor's farms. This will be at a fee, hence generating an income. My farm products will now be good and this means my family and I shall no longer starve. Secondly, with the dairy cow, I will be getting milk for free and I am planning to sell the remaining liters to my neighbors and getting an additional income. I will no longer strain in meeting my family's basic needs and I will be paying school fees in good time.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6 am when I was preparing myself for my daily chores. Then I heard my phone ringing continuously and I was a bit shocked, I asked my son to confirm who had sent the message. He then broke the news by saying GD had sent my first transfer. I was very overexcited.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer to buying an ox and a dairy cow. I have always been praying to own them but I could not afford it since my income was very low. I then bought a bed and a matress, previously I used to sleep on the traditional bed which was so uncomfortable and it was very small. I then bought my own ox plough to avoid hiring or borrowing from friends. I then gave my son KES 5000 to boost his business because it had collapsed. The remaining amount of money, I cleared school fees for my children, because they were approaching exams and I was so sure they would be missing the exams since they had a huge fees balance. But God is great because the money came in good time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy livestock to replace the herd I lost in the 2016/2017 drought. I will however prefer to own more goats than cows this time round because they are drought resistant and reproduce faster. The livestock will enable me educate my children which is my biggest priority.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day because the whole family gets to eat together after spending the day apart attending to our various tasks.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Our main struggle is financial instability. I am a traditional doctor while my husband burns charcoal to make money. However, these two incomes combined can not adequately satisfy our needs of food and education because they are unreliable. Some of my children even opted to drop out of school because they were oftenly sent home to collect fee balances thus disrupting their concentration in school.
