How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
From the transfers, I bought chicken and goats. The chicken lay eggs and I sell them and from that I never lack sugar or any basic necessities. I am also able to buy myself clothes from the sale of the eggs. The goats are also giving birth and soon I will be able to sell and get more money.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The idea of giving me cash and I decide what to spend on is just great.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought goats and chicken and made sure I have a good place to sleep by buying a good mattress and blanket.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a message alert on my phone. Upon checking its contents, my heart was filled with happiness as the message indicated that I had received money from GD. I knew that my prayers had finally been answered and will be able to accomplish what I had planned.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My life is different from how it was in that, I have achieved most of my goals. I have started my poultry farming and bought sheep which I didn't have before. If it were not for GiveDirectly, I could have struggled to achieve all this by now. My gratitude goes to GiveDirectly for making it possible for me.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When Give Directly came to our village and promise us after enrollment that we shall have a lumpsum amount that will support us to improve our livelihood. I started planing for it and settled on carrying out poultry farming and sheep rearing which is easy to manage due to my old age. After receiving the money, I bought building materials and chain link wire for fencing perimeter enclosure for rearing birds. Now I have completed constructing the structures and bought a few chicken to start with. I also bought three sheep that I will be rearing so that in case of a financial need I will sell a few. I am certain that with time they will reproduce and increase in number and act as assets. The remaining portion I spent on purchasing some food items for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been aspiring to start poultry farming where I will be able to sell eggs and earn income. I am planning to use $150 of my first transfer to buy building materials and chicken to start. Since I am getting old, I am unable to go and work in the farm and therefore, poultry keeping will be the best way to earn money.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My normal day entails going to my garden of 0.25 of an acre early in the morning where I grow onions, kales, sweet potatoes to either weed, grow more crops or even water them. This will take me the entire morning and part of my afternoon up to around 4 pm. The only free time I have to relax is in the evening after the days work which also makes the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Since the demise of my wife 3 years ago, life has never been the same. She used to sell kiln products since she was an expert on that and earn around $200 a month. Now I depend on selling milk which I get around $0.3 a day which hardly enough to fend for my family of 2. The biggest hardship in my life therefore has been lack of money to fend for my family.
