Receiving this money means improved living standards for my household. I plan to achieve this through livestock keeping. I will use KES 30,000 of the first transfer to purchase ten indigenous goats which do well in our area due to drought.As the goats multiply, I will sell at a profit and use the proceeds to address my basic needs such as food, water and school fees.
The remaining amount will help me to build a two roomed house and beddings which will need about KES 50,000.The remaining amount will be for any emergency.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I remember last month I had 5 bags of charcoal which had stayed there for sometime.One of my buyers came with his friend and bought them at once.I earned KES 3000 at a go and used 1500 to buy food and cleared school fees for my child. I gave my husband the remaining amount to start a grocery in Mombasa.This has brought joy to my family because I am able to meet my basic needs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenges that I am currently facing is the effect of drought.This has led to water scarcity in the area because all water pans that we rely on drawing water from have dried up. I am a house wife and I depend on charcoal production as a source of income which earns me KES 1200 per month. This income is not enough for food and water for a family of four members.In a day I require KES 200 which is hard to get on a daily basis.Due to this sometimes my children and I sleep without washing so that I use the water for cooking only.
