My new goal is to start a business of buying and selling cows. I would like to start the business so that it can help me in getting money for paying school fees for my five children. This way, I will not be forced to sell the cows that I bought with the transfers to raise money for paying school fees. I am a farmer and I usually plant vegetables and sell them. The money that I get from the sales, is what usually helps me in paying school fees for my children and paying for the merry-go-round contributions.

GiveDirectly did well because they changed the lives of many for the better in the community with the transfers that they gave them. Their staff also taught us well in the meeting that they held with the community members. They explained well everything about the program and hence I do not see anything wrong with how they conducted their work.

We spent KES 35000 of our recent transfer on buying another cow. We decided to buy the cow to add to the one that we had bought with the first transfer so that we could increase our milk production. We usually sell milk when the cow calves and the money that we get from the sales is what usually helps us in taking care of the cows, that is, buying acaricide for spraying the cows against ticks. Increased milk production thus means more income. We didn't have a cow of our own before, we had a borrowed one from someone. It has always been our wish to buy our own but we didn't have the money. So when GiveDirectly came up with this program in our village, we saw the opportunity to achieve our dream. We also spent KES 4000 on buying a sheep. The sheep is an investment and it is going to help us in the future when it reproduces and multiplies in number. With the remaining transfer amount, we used it on buying maize for our consumption and clothes for our children. We are thus grateful and happy because we have managed to save some of the money that we make since the food costs have reduced.

It was around 9pm. When I heard a message notification from my phone. I felt so happy because I have never received such amount of money. I immediately inform my family members and they were so happy too.we slept well knowing that our lives won't remain the same. I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow and cut the daily cost of buying milk. The next day in the morning we went and withdrew the money.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a dairy cow. It costed me KES 40,000. I used to buy milk daily and this was so demoralizing and stressful especially when I had no money. My children would go without milk. I depend on small scale farming and causal jobs in the village. This two activities combine would earns me small income. The recurrent needs would clear all the small money I would made. I had no extra money to buy a dairy cow. When I received the transfer I felt so happy and invested in this amazing dairy project. Currently I no longer stress up on where to get the money to buy milk. My children no longer miss to have milk like before. They are so happy and healthy. I am so grateful for the support because were it not GiveDirectly all this could not have happened on time.
