How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I was able to pay school fees for my three children in secondary school. Had it not have been for the transfer, one of my children would not have been able to join the secondary school and the other two might have dropped out of school. Seeing them continue with their education makes me happier and have a reason to work extra hard to cater for their education needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in uplifting our living standards. With the use of transfers, we were able to cater to our pressing needs. I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent some amount to pay school fees for my children. I settled on this so that it would give me enough time to look for the remaining amount. Also, I spent some amount to boost my business so as to increase the returns from it. On the remaining amount, I gave my spouse some amount so that he could use on his personal needs and also bought enough food to last my family for some time.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that l am now staying in a very nice comfortable house and sleeping in a very comfortable place as compared to before when I was sleeping in very thin mattress.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment l received the money l was very happy that l tried calling Give Directly's number but unfortunately l did not get anybody on the line.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent most of the transfer to plaster my house since it was too dusty and this was the best way to keep it clean. I spent the transfer to buy cupboard for me to have a place where l can keep my utensils safe. I also spent the transfer to buy furniture since l did not have enough furniture to sit on . The remaining balance l spent to buy mattress and bedding, l am now sleeping on a very comfortable place.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I shall be able to improve my business, I will also save some money since I have a candidate sitting class 8 this year and my expectation is that she is going to pass and this cash transfer have offered me school fees relief that was going to be of a burden as her sibling shall be proceeding to form two.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is usually in the evening when I settle back home and talking to my kids, the joy becomes even more on good business day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced was early this year when I reduced my stock because my daughter was joining form one, coupled with post election problems that affected most families that depend on market sales, we had to close shops or made very low sales hence terrible decline financially.
